I'll have his last semester paid before I retire in February. He's going to grad school after that, and I'm paying for about 25% of that. The rest of grad school is on his dime. He'll get out of school debt free if he plays his cards right. It's gonna be nice to be done with my 2 kid's educations. On to retirement in 212 days!!!

Not to rain on your parade but I wish I could tell you the kids completely come of the payroll after they graduate, but that would be a lie. They do not. At least they didn't in my case.

Congratulations, I know the feeling. My daughter graduates in December, one semester early. She too, will graduate debt free. She has to do one year of residency, then will go back for either her doctorate or masters. Again like you, the second round will mostly be on her.
I retired about a year and a half ago. It is nice. Congrats on that also.
Go Tigers!

all of you fine & proud Tiger Dad’s & Mom’s that have worked hard for the kids and seeing them succeed to this desired point in life which includes higher learning..particularly from a super fine university!
And yes, the financial giving may or may not cease for you, but if it doesn’t it’s still ok for they are more than worth it.
Congrats and Go old & new TiGERS!

Personally I don't want to make my children and grands wait until i die before sharing part of what I don't really need. Just makes sense to me. I think my parents would have done the same if they could have but they could not.

We're going to take the whole family on a trip to England, Scotland, and Ireland next summer after my son is graduated from Clemson. I'm happy to give to my kids in that way, but I feel they should earn their own way in this world. I'm always there if they need me, but I don't want them to think I'm their second source of income.

Sounds familiar. My daughter graduated in 2017 and my son graduated from Penn St in 2012. They both had some student loans but we paid them off as a graduation present when they graduated. It basically spread our payment for their college over 5 years instead of 4. We did this with my son because he needed to feel that he had some skin in the game and he did not know we planned to pay it off when he graduated. My daughter didn’t need the extra motivation but it still helped to have the loan to reduce the yearly cost a little so we handled hers the same way. Both kids have Civil Engineering degrees and got good jobs so they were pretty much off the payroll upon graduation. I had advised them to pick a major where they could get a good job because I would pay for 4 years and anything after that they would have to take loans for. Seemed to work out well. I worked in the big food processing plants for another 3.5 years after she graduated, basically saving the same amount of money we had been paying for college into an account to bridge us to when we will use our conventional retirement accounts, then semi-retired with a job at Clemson working with students in the 55 Exchange ice cream program. Fully retired January 2 of this year about 2 weeks before my 60th birthday. Having the time of my life right now. It will be here before you know it. It’s great when a plan comes together.

I’m just south of Easley. No way I’m ever moving back to Florida. FLA is the first 3 letters of my last name. Had nothing to do with living in FL but you are not the first to think that.

and are gainfully employed.
However, as for retirement, welp, about to hit 76 on August 5th, and my little, old workaholic butttt keeps getting after it. Odd thing is, I'm the oldest of four, and all are retired except moi...and I have no plans to quit working...yet.
