...being made tomorrow, I offer this contrary opinion.
As an FSU fan who wants to see FSU and Clemson leave the ACC ASAP I just don't see how an announcement can be made, at least by FSU, tomorrow.
I'm no lawyer. I'm not expert of the bylaws of FSU or state Constitution. But, Florida has a pretty strict "government in the sunshine law." Business by the BOT cannot be handled in private. Votes must be made in public.
It is my understanding that the BOT will have to vote to approve leaving the ACC. Board meetings must be published in advance (I think 24 hours but it may be longer than that.). There is no board meeting scheduled for tomorrow. While the board has given full support to the president and AD to search for ways to cut the revenue gap with other schools, it has not voted to give the president the authority to announce FSU is leaving the ACC.
It could happen. I just don't see how, based on my understanding of how the infrastructure of FSU has to work.

Just spitballing, but some open meetings laws have a stipulation that contract negoiations do not have to be made public.

The process the SEC followed with Texas and Oklahoma was initiated with an invitation. That’s preceded any other actions by the invitees.

Agree. Hopefully next year. I still think it's up to the B1G and Fox. ND wanted cal and Stanford but that wasn't enough for them to join. I'm not sold on the idea the money providers want 2 conferences. The only thing that would accomplish is create pods. That goes back to what we had. Regional matchups with games that make the networks nothing.

I believe it is a deadline provide notice of leaving after the 2024 season, not ASAP. Regardless, I doubt it will happen tomorrow. That said, they could announce anytime between Aug 16, 2023 and Aug 15, 2024 they’re intent to leave after 2025 season. They don’t have to wait til Aug 15 to do that.

I believe the ACC is going to play hardball for a while so it can get a 3-5 more teams onboard and survive when FSU and Clemson leave.
My guess is that after the ACC expands a bit more the cost of exiting might be more practical.
Just idle speculation from me.

To quite. I think we would have heard more rumblings and you would see Pete Thamel and Bret McMurphy reporting at least rumors. Sounds like Clemson and F St are waiting 1 more year before they announce a move. We probably need the time to make sure everything’s in order.

As big as the financial stumbling blocks were there was never a realistic scenario where those would get worked out in the little time they had. I think FSU did their best posturing to try and force the hands of the ACC and ESPN but nobody was budging.
I agree with you that in another year they should get this figured out and be able to exit for the 2025 season.

I think that depends on the announcement. If something has been worked out with the teams staying in the ACC, no BOT meeting would be required.
