Looking a little deeper into Brownell's ACC numbers...

This is not a “fire Brownell” or “keep Brownell” post. This is merely the numbers on his time here. I am going to provide his ACC record, and also record in ACC games against teams with a winning record in conference. These games would be considered the “good wins” needed to advance to NCAAT, move the program forward, etc… They do not include the ACC Tournament.
Overall ACC Record: 76-82
Record vs. ACC teams that finished above .500 in conference: 17-57
In the last 5 years, which would be years 5 - 9 of his program, Brownell has 9 total wins over ACC teams that finished the year above .500 in conference play. NINE
He has 9 “good wins” in 5 years of conference play. This includes last year’s Sweet 16 team, and the 2015-16 team that started conference play with 3 of these big wins.
Wins over ACC teams that finished above .500 by year:
2010-11: 3-3 2011-12: 3-3 2012-13: 1-9 2013-14: 1-5 2014-15: 0-7 2015-16: 3-5 2016-17: 0-11 2017-18: 4-5 2018-19: 2-7
Make of that what you will.

great program with Brownell. Just imagine what his record would be if KJ didn't leave early or if we didn't have to play an entire season without any home games. Now that CBB has the updated facilities he will be able to recruit and turn this thing around.

what got me is this year we had an experienced team 4 guys in their 5th year. Yet we could not close out close games. I think we won one and lost 4 if I remember right. We were like that two years ago and heard about the need to have experience at guard. This year we had it and it didnt help. All in all a poor season

Bet it's not much better historically by all Clemson coaches. We've never been able to win consistently against the "good" teams in the ACC.

It’s typical Clemson Basketball. The question is do we want to remain a border line AVG program or do we want to excel? We keep CBB fine we may every 4-5 years have a good team or hire a new coach and just start over. The risks for a program like Clemson are small either way

Each year, if you count the play in games, 72 teams make the tournament. SEVENTY-TWO!!!! Clemson has been one of them only twice - TWO TIMES - in NINE freaking seasons. Thats not getting it done, not even close. Why are so many of you cool with that? Its honestly a little disconcerting.

Because the NCAA Tournament is NOT egalitarian.
Missing it does not make you "no better than 73rd" when so many lower-ranked teams get automatic bids. We are definitely one of the top 50 programs, but they're not going to turn a national tournament into the ACC and Friends Tournament. We have to finish in the top half of our league to get an invitation.
Imagine if only half of the ACC or SEC football teams were allowed to go bowling every year, and 5 of the spots above you were locked up before the first snap. If going to a bowl was your definition of success, you'd be playing your entire season to get that 6th or 7th spot, and you'd be overjoyed if you got to go bowling in NYC in late Dec or El Paso.
That's what many fans go thru, and we're not far removed from it ourselves.
Some of us are determined NOT to be spoiled. We DON'T want to become like Bama fans who feel entitled to winning and who disrespect their players who disappoint them.
I get the impression you do want to feel entitled. If I'm wrong, sorry for my misperception.

who seem so upset about being a middle of the pack ACC team, but seemingly have no problem with us having the second lowest basketball budget in the ACC.
We don't have a right to expect Brownell or any other basketball coach to get us into the tournament if we aren't willing to support the program financially.
