Last Chance to Ask Questions About Going to the Game in Cuse
Sep 30, 2013, 7:56 PM
|
|
Tiger Fans...we Cuse fans have been looking forward to this game since Sept '11. Having it be Clemson only makes it sweeter and more intense. Our school is tradition laden but hopefully we learn more about Southern Football traditions too in the future (we can use some mentoring and help). Looking forward to a new, intense yet respectful rivalry.
That said...if anyone is traveling up and need a question answered, ask.
You guys are welcomed to swing by my tailgate in the Fine Lot on gameday...send me a T Mail if interested.

Mark, That is a very nice response/invitation and we welcome you to the ACC. It will be exciting on Saturday and I just might come by to see you as we will be coming to Syracuse . Thanks for the invite . As a visitor do you have suggestions on parking and is Dinosaur BBQ the restaurant to go to on Friday or anything else to suggest? Thanks again and look forward to visiting Syracuse.

Dinosaur will be a madhouse...all I can tell you is to go real early. Thankfully the weather will be good so you can stand outside and drink beer while waiting. I'd park downtown and walk a few blocks to Dinosaur. After eating walk about 5 blocks south to Armory Square.
Other suggestions: For Friday (do the Haddock and steamers) at the Clam Bar. The Clam Bar is on South Bay Rd very close to the Airport. http://www.theclambarrestaurant.com/ Coleman's on Tipperary Hill is one of America's great Irish Bars/Restaurants. Very good food, exc beer. http://www.colemansirishpub.com/pages/tipphill.html Pastabilities in Armory Square is awesome...get the Chicken Riggies. http://www.pastabilities.com/ If you want pizza go to one of the Twin Trees Restaurants. http://www.twintreespizza.com/ordereze/default.aspx Another option is to grab a famous Hofmann Coney at Heid's in Liverpool. http://heidsofliverpool.com/ If you have kids bring them to the 3rd level of Destiny Mall...you'll thank me. http://www.destinyusa.com/entertainment
Bottomline: Syracuse has a ton of original restaurants and many are outstanding.
As for parking: get there early try lots north of the Dome along Adams and Harrison, the frats along Walnut or parking garages. Just beware some parking garages might close only about 2 hours after the game...ask before paying. The Sheraton is probably the best parking garage but the most expensive ($25?) and stays open.

Sadly no Chick-fil-a in CNY just a Denny's that Coach Boeheim owns.

I've been preparing since the last time that lil orange puff ball waved at me as he pranced around the goal post. Been doing weekly readings of, "The Art of War." I hit the dojo thrice a week. In a mental test, I once lived in the wild, and off the land for six months. I became one with the wolves, and eventually I was pack leader........

Two stories no one is sure
Orangemen might have come from the Orange Irish. Syracuse started as a Methodist College. The other theory is it was named after the color Syracuse adopted. Syracuse was the earliest school to adopt Orange and it is the only official color despite the fact the school uses Blue as an accent color. The PC crowd uses the second theory.

Working in Cuse this week and going to game Sat
Sep 30, 2013, 9:27 PM

Staying downtown at Jefferson Clinton hotel. I have a rental car but not sure best way to enjoy the pre-game, post-game experience. How should we go to the game? Time? Should we hang around campus or go grab a late dinner. We are a couple of older farts(50ish) that enjoy following the Tigers and enjoying the trip along the way.
Nice offer.

It is too bad we had a train running from across the street from the hotel to within two blocks of the Dome. It shut down a few years ago...I hope they bring it back. I recommend taking the connective corridor bus up and back http://centro.org/Schedules/Centro%20Syracuse/Syracuse%20University/443-08262013.pdf
If you are in decent shape you can walk downtown from the game. Bring a map (find Adams Street and head down the hill). It is about 1.5 miles mostly downhill. There are a few sketchy areas but you should be fine in a crowd at 7-8pm.

It is a fairly long walk but the weather looks good. If yo are in decent shape it is doable. Just print out a map. The walk back will be much easier (all down hill).
You can also checkout Syracuse Suds Brew Pub on Friday and see if they are stlll offering the bus from their bar on gameday. I think they went in with PJ's Restaurant and Bar but they are closed right now undergoing a theme change.

I have a friend that'll be bartending at Feagan's on Friday night, so that's where we'll be. Good spot? Two questions:
1) What are the best bars within walking distance from Feagan's?
2) What are the best bars to watch the early games on Saturday?
Thanks.

Faegans has a great reputation...those in their 30s/40s won't feel too out of place. A nice mix of ages as Cuse alumni fill the place on game weekends.
For the early games there is a bar in the basement level real close to Faegans...I think it is near a convenience store. The atmosphere is meh...but they might put the sound on for you. Another place is the bar at the Sheraton...plus they have TVs in the lobby IIRC...you can usually turn them on and watch the game/people. Good chance at the Sheraton you might run into Sean McDonough (calling our game) or any number of ex Cuse players. They also sell tailgate food out in front of the hotel and the SU Flagship will be doing a pregame radio show there.

Tigernet and being so cordial and helpful.
I'm driving up with a good friend who's daughter is a sophomore (sorry, no pics...yet) and we'll be trusting her judgement on where to go and things to do. Is this a wise decision or should I follow your guide?

BTW, if Cuse stays close to Clemson the Dome will be very loud for more than just a few series. I know you guys are used to Death Valley but this noise is different. It just reverberates and hurts. If you have sensitive hearing I recommend bringing ear plugs.
I know our home crowd...if you get up on us by 17 pts the place will be much quieter. We'll have a ton of bandwagon (big event) fans in there and they'll be the first to quiet down. We are trying to grow our FB fan base back after the GRob disaster. However, we are not BC fan like.

thats a great way to put it Mark. When the dome is rockin it really is the loudest venue in the ACC. On the flip side, when the team gets down, it is literally the worst environment in all of D1, no hyperbole
