enrolling in Ohio State this fall. Probably was going to be some QB transfers anyway, but Miller and McCord probably gone sooner rather than later.

Creates a monster logjam at QB. Not even mentioning the 3rd and 4th string, what do you do with a 3rd year former 5* in Stroud who presumably has a year of starts under his belt vs this hyped up 5* recruit who has played probably sparingly in 2021 after skipping his senior year of high school?
There are also very few uncommitted (not that that matters a ton) blue chip QB's left in 2022 to even bring someone in for depth that can play at the upper tier of CFB level.

That's a risky risky move. Hope it pays off for him and the NIL is worth it.
But at 17yo, going against 21yo is such a leap. Hopefully Day doesn't throw him to the wolves too soon.

I wonder how NIL contracts work in reference to red-shirting.
He could go to OSU, with plans to redshirt and just collect the cash.

I would agree, the overall speed, size and strength of top tier college players is a big step up from even the top tier of Texas football. What if he comes in and get hurt and never really pans out?

I would assume he will play very little, if at all this year. (But, I know nothing.) Coaches probably talked to him about coming in and he would be getting better coaching and preparing him to start next year. (I don't have any idea what their QB depth chart looks like.)
Years ago, Mike Gminski skipped his senior year in HS, enrolled at Duke and was the starting center his freshman year.
Low risk for Ohio State. If he's great, he's gonna leave early for NFL. If he's not, the Ohio State can have him for four or five years.

I have some OSU fans and they're saying he is going to make $700K in NIL first year so might as well get the money while he can.
Also, the rumor about San Howell transferring was likely related to this, as the rumor was "someone not currently on the OSU roster will likely start a game". Ewers is that guy.
Good luck to him.

If he has an informal NIL offer and it pans out, this makes sense.
Since I'm guessing he can't sign a contract until he's actually in college, there is risk here.
This is one of the ways that recruiting is going to be affected.
A school that can guarantee hundreds of thousands to a player that isn't likely to start is going to have a huge advantage over other schools.
and things will get ugly when players are given verbal promises that aren't kept.
If the dude can make $700k for a year or two he doesn't have to start or make it to the NFL to be set for life.

I'll bet that check from Ohio St. was bigger than the ones Kirby "Not So" Smart writes.

who graduated with college credit, some through the AP program, who went on to be freaking doctors. They're some of the smartest, most driven people I know.
THEY didn't even graduate high school early. I'm really curious how Ewers pulled that off. I honestly feel like we're rapidly approaching a point where everyone admits what we all already know: academics don't mean a four-letter-word to these kids, the NCAA, and most of the schools. Enrolling early scores Ewers HUGE bucks through NIL; why else would he do it?

Some schools/districts/states are different. Could be on a block schedule to where they take 8 classes each year. Also when I was in school if you were smart enough you could take HS classes in middle schools. No clue how many credits he had to have to graduate but I know I only took 3 credits my senior year and we were on a 7 class schedule. If we would have been on block I could have graduated early as well.

I fetched up at my senior year in high school with just 2 courses to take all year, and I didn’t skip any courses or do anything special to be in that situation. Finished my school day at 10:15 AM and went home. That was many long years ago, maybe they require students to take a full load daily beyond the required credits to graduate. The point is, I could have finished in summer school and skipped senior year.

But I can't really blame him if it's true ~$1 million comes his way for doing this.
Despite what Saban said about Bryce Young and now this, I don't really think we have a clue just how much NIL will change things in CFB.

It's been a 5 or 6 year career for the boy and he doesn't have as many wins under his belt as Clemson gets in ONE year!
