Keith Maguire

Jan 3, 2023, 9:25 AM

Post on Instagram last night seems to indicate that’s he’s not returning for a 5th season. If that’s the case, LB depth is as follows

Barrett Carter
Jeremiah Trotter
Wade Woodaz

TJ Dudley
Kobe McCloud
Jamal Anderson
Dee Crayton

Dudley and Kobe saw minimal snaps this year, both redshirting as a result. Jamal Anderson and Dee Crayton have no experience at all.

Though I like the backups that we have, especially Dudley and Anderson. The coaches have to bring in more depth. It’s too late in the recruiting cycle, unless you’re willing to grab a developmental guy that won’t be ready. You know what that means?

Transfer portal. Let’s go get a great one!

I like it as far as what we have. This next season will be a building year again. We are 2 seasons away. That's okay. We just need to have a good recruiting class.

it would be great to pickup a couple players with playing time its pretty much a must

We signed Hunter Johnson and Paul Tyson to provide that veteran presence. I think we could do the same at LB. I think Dudley and Anderson will be ready to contribute. But I’m worried that Kobe and Crayton need another year. Can’t go in to a season with only 5 LBs that can play winning football.

You communists keep talking Portal. yet

are we down to 85 yet,to even have room ?

My guess is we go after Jayven Hall or Bryan Longwell and add to the current class.

If this is our backup plan to build quality depth when a veteran player transfers/leaves football in January, in a depleted group, then we have issues. Our starting 3 LB's might be the best in the country as a group but we are an injury or two from having no functional depth.

Our starting LB's are maybe the best in the country? Is this some type of joke? We heard that last year about the D line and it made sense on paper but did not work out that way. At 215 lbs. Woodaz is safety size, not LB. Sure he will eventually put on some weight and continue to improve but how many top SEC teams have a 215 lb LB? Carter can play any spot on the field but he is undersized as well. Trotter will be fine. It's a tiny group by elite team standards and they will need plenty of back ups to avoid being worn down. No idea where they are coming from but we need size and footspeed immediately. Bentley and Maguire could have supplied some of this but that boat seems to have sailed. It could get ugly if we don't get an upside surprise because the injuries are going to come at LB.
Next year is going to be a tough one from the D line all the way to the back end.

Carter and Trotter are elite.

Woodaz flashed. But there’s definitely someone better than him in the portal.

I’m not saying that we go after someone to start for us. But we need quality/experienced depth. In the same way that Hunter and Tyson provide experienced depth in the QB room, we should see if we can do the same in the LB room. Bring in 1-2 guys that know what their role would be.

100%. Carter and Trotter are elite, but we are two injuries to them away from using walk-ons in the rotation. The lack of depth at LB is the top personnel concern heading into 2023 season. Would love for it to be addressed in the portal...

Hate to see Keith go, he played some quality time last year. Best of luck to him! This may be a time to use the portal, but we still have to see who is staying to decide our scholarship count.

Maguire consistently shot the wrong gaps as an inside linebacker. Since Woodaz is on the field, run defense has improved markedly---huge upgrade IMO he just has a better eye for the ball.

Regarding portal usage, I'm sure Pearman is hard at work............

Dabo will bank on God to come down from heaven and fill the depth we need on this team before he goes to the portal!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We could definitely use a backup option..

Jan 3, 2023, 10:28 AM

but thats the challenge...how to do you go get a quality LBer that transferred bc he wasnt playing and then basically say..."you know you are just a backup here too".

Best bet is to go get a good FCS vet who can bridge the gap...if they are out there.

I don’t everyone in the portal is transferring just to start somewhere else.

We got Hunter and Tyson to come be backup QBs. I’m hoping we can find some veterans to come be backup LBs as well.

Dabo is more likely use the portal to Narnia

Dude…are you serious?

We offered 2 offensive linemen last year and we’ve signed 2 backup QBs in back to back years.

We do use the portal. You’re just a hater.
