Dabo and the transfer portal

This isn’t a post bashing his decisions. I’m just interested to see what y’all think on the topic of him using it. He has backed himself into a corner, that if he uses it he looks like a hypocrite. I love Dabo and I think he will start using it regardless of what some media personalities will say about it. If he does use it how effective do you think he will be? Can he be a top player in the portal? Or does NIL have more to do with portal use?

Yea I know he has. He has brought in 2 quarterbacks. He went after a lineman from Virginia that ended up At Michigan. But I mean l that is probably still dead last in portal use. And I’m not complaining about not using it. I think Dabo looks out for the players he recruits and not a lot of coaches can say that. I was more asking the people who were ant to see Dabo take 5,6 players every offseason from the portal.

He has backed himself into a corner because media outlets are battering him for his use of the portal. He has stated he doesn’t like using it. Just like he said he was against professionalizing the college game. Media points out he said he would quit before college players get paid. Here we are he hasn’t quit. And just because you bring in a token quarterback who will never play meaningful time doesn’t mean you are using the portal. Soon as he uses it he will be blasted for his hard stance of trying not to use it.

And Dabo said if, they were made employees, not paid. They were already being paid, then received more through the stipend. He's done nothing, but support NIL including the creation of a Center offering mentoring in helping the student-athlete promote themselves, found in here...

It seems you need to read less from the media and do more research of Dabo and the Clemson program, because you've been off base on a number of things you've suggested.
And using the portal, means using the portal; anything else is a fabrication - Clemson has also made offers to players in the portal.

Whatever. Twist it to whatever narrative to you want. His exact words were “But as far as paying players l, professionalizing college athletics that is where you lose me. I will go and do something else.” Maybe you need to do some research on the program.

What I took in was the point you were trying to make, which was in error and that has continued for the most, including suggesting Whatever. Twist it to whatever narrative to you want. and All you had to do was read.

Regarding portal, what if we said it a little differently. Would it be fair to say he hasn't used the portal to any meaningful advantage like several other programs have?
I don't have an issue at all with his NIL stance. He backed way off of his original stance on that and we are making it available as a retention tool.

been used, but Dabo defines the need so you sort of lose me on meaningful, because that seems an outside value judgement, which is fine if people want to go there, to each their own as it's absolutely OK to have an opinion. Some are just much more betterer at stating their opinion than others; it's a LOFT issue.
I've never cared what Dabo decides with the portal, his choice, he knows his team and will say again - my concern when it first hit the pavement was losing experienced, 3rd year practice depth[practice is important] and the hole that might result in Clemson's pay it forward culture.

They give two sh1tz because....like or not.... the PERCEPTION IS THE REALITY. And Dabo is PERCEIVED as being anti-portal, anti-NIL and worse in some media circles. And Dabo popping off about the portal AIN'T helping.

I agree. I love Dabo and he can run the team however, he has earned that. It’s easy to say don’t follow media coverage, but it’s not a little bit of media coverage. It’s every where. It’s hard to miss.

....The thing with Dabo is you are NEVER going to get him to say he was wrong/slow to implement (see summer OV change---never detailed why he changed after several seasons). I'm cool with that----just adjust slightly.
If we use the Portal like BAMA and OSU I would be VERY happy. I just wish he would take BV advice....."less is more." Love his convictions, but say less to not back yourself into a corner. Just not necessary. Use the "WAIT" principle.

if you've followed Clemson football closely, Dabo has always taken transfers, prep players as well and had done a lot of work with DRad, Clemson proper to clear the way to take JUCOs if needed.
One of my favorites with some Clemson lore of sorts involved, is Big Nick Schuessler. He was supposedly taken as a transfer to help reel in Robert Nkemdiche, which was always laughable.
Nick came in, cleared off a spot on the bench, then told KB2 take a seat, while Nick did work taking the #2 spot behind DW4.
KB2 was hand picked by theChad as the heir apparent to DW4, but Nick was having none of it.
Knowing we've taken Nick and others, I asked DHood about any hesitancy to get in the portal and David relayed pretty much spot on what Dabo later confirmed - his preference.
I really don't have a care one way or the other, if Dabo sees a need to get more involved, then good on him. I do understand the passion some show in wanting to dive in...

I understand what you are saying. Maybe my wording is off. I’m just curious if people believe Dabo will use the portal like FSU did last offseason. I don’t think we will. But is Dabo capable of it? My wife is in her doctors and I’m just looking for some conversation.

I agree 100%. I’m actually ok with not using the portal, and if he wanted to use it alot idc. Dabo has done so much for the university and it is his choice. He can do as he pleases he definitely earned that right.

There are a few types in the portal.
1. Players not starting and want a starting job.
2. Good players at smaller schools who have progressed and ready for a bigger school.
3. The high talent player who will only go to a high NIL offer.

me otherwise. These schools have guys that put out feelers that are unaffiliated to the team's payroll (i guess is how they do it) and the sell to the highest bidders. There may be an occasion here and there were a student reaches out individually to a school but the majority are places almost the same manner as a head hunter.
So the question for Dabo then is do you want to meddle and pull guys out of other schools b/c you can. Thats an ethical dilemma for him. Dabo is fine with taking a guy that is sitting in the portal on his own but most of those guys have a reason their still sitting there. Which is probably why we never move much in the portal.

Dabo makes the decisions and has not had an opportunity to use The Portal. NIL is an entirely different thing from the Portal and has little affect.

If Dabo wanted to use the portal he would use the portal. If he felt he could make Clemson a better team by using the transfer portal he would use the transfer portal.
'Transfer portal, is a easy to type, can you tell? Everything else about the transfer portal is risky.

Wow your post was hijacked by a triggered sunshine pumper. Regardless of what anybody says, Dabo is the poster boy for being anti NIL and portal regardless of how true or untrue it is by the facts. That’s what people are seeing. Not a good look.
