but 247 says clemson is his leader and espn and yahoo/rivals dont even list the dirtpeckers offering him. hes a 4 star by 2 services and a 3 star by rivals. i know nothing about him but is he someone we would want or is he not worth the trouble?

Suppose to take only 1 DE maybe two. No way they take a commitment from Smith right now.
I personally think Smith is creating a place holder with the coots until something better opens up for him.

We're also almost certainly keeping in touch with the 5 star guys like Shavar Manuel, Brian Burns, and Nick Bosa.

I honestly don't see Shavar being as good as he's ranked. He's a great DE for sure but not sure he's worthy of the same hype as other past top DEs.
