Guys will still try to return them. It's an art and still relevant in the NFL.

A major step in Pace of Play would be to allow the teams at halftime a chance to hit The John for a whizz and a few minutes to adjust equipment and have the band play in the stands. The 30 minutes between halves is terminal in some cases.

Pace of play, really?

Yea, the problem is the game is too long. Perhaps it's that they show 25 commercials after every two downs!

Correct. The obvious problem is the media time out lengths,

but they cannot touch the "money" aspect, so they do something token in other areas which don't make a hill of beans of difference, and may even be detrimental to the game. They assume they that the majority of the fans and observers are too stupid to notice. Pretty much the way our leaders and news outlets conduct this country.

Amen. The entire “length of game” issue falls on the networks, not the rules, and therefore can’t be legislated outside of ESPN.

Exactly....possibly split screen during commercials.. Not a fan of that solution but great if you’re at the game. Keep it rolling. Go Tigers

Well, do you expect the cars to stop for a commercial? Not an applicable comparison.

No doubt about it. The commercial interests are always number one. Even on the radio, it's endless commercials for any kind of format. Sponsors mean $$$$. This is what is most important to the media and the sports franchises. Why is OSU looking the other way with Urbane Meyer? $$$$$$$$$

I have no data to cite re the extent of injuries on punt returns but it appears to me it would rank up there with injuries occurring on a kickoff return. What I can't understand is allowing a kickoff fair catch inside the 25 yard line to be placed at the receiving team's 25 yard line. Either allow the same placement for a fair caught punt or treat the fair caught kickoff the same as a fair caught punt, placed at the point of the catch.
Just to indicate, in my opinion, how stupid the new fair catch kickoff appears, consider this situation. Suppose on a kickoff situation the kicking team decides to kick a high short kick and is fair caught by the receiving team on their 37 yard line. By the current rule, the ball is placed at that point. Now to counteract the new rule and add a bit more stupidity, shouldn't we place the ball back on the receiving team's 25 yard line?
I'm 100% in favor of rules and equipment that will provide obvious solutions for the safety of the players but there is no way to totally prevent injuries. Football is a game of hard licks and those who play the game are aware of the possibility of injuries. If we attempt to eliminate every aspect of practices that could possibly lead to an injury, we could save a lot of money, time and effort by limiting football to playing a fantasy game on our computers.

So the committee didn't make any changes to the Alabama Payback Rule? Maybe it's an interpretation, rather than a rule itself.
You know, the one that says, "All Alabama players are allowed unlimited physical contact with an opposing team's players within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage on pass plays, both offensively and defensively. Interference shall not be called on Alabama on pass plays of less than 5 yards. Neither shall any personal fouls be called on Alabama on the first possession of each team during a game, nor shall Targeting be called on Alabama at any time during a CFP game."
This is in sympathy with the ignorant interpretation that has been debunked repeatedly, that Tay Scott initiated the contact with the DB on Hunter Renfrow's game-winning TD, which would have been OPI if so. The whole reason Tay was the "pickman" was because his technique is flawlessly legal. Numerous times in 2016 Tay had his own TDs called back because other WRs were flagged for poor blocking technique. Tay NEVER took a teammate's TD off the board with sloppy blocking.
I thought it was hilarious (even while I was upset at losing) during the Sugar Bowl when little Nicky Saban whined to the Back Judge about Deon pushing off to get separation from the DB. I'm translating my lip reading of the BJ: "Coach, you don't wanna go there, or we're gonna have to flag your guys on every play."

Really the time after a touchdown is what’s making games long?? This will save maybe 2 mins tops while not allowing anyone time to celebrate a big TD. But heaven forbid we cut some commercials...

If that is the only game going, sure they will double it. They advertise during the Super Bowl. They can also do all the commercials during half time and not pay all the clowns they pay now and make the same money
