Coordinator interviews

I've been asked a lot about coordinator interviews during fall camp, or lack thereof, and expect this to be much the case going forward. We usually get coordinators on Monday or Tuesday of game week and then postgame. That is going away.
We will get them four times during the season..before Duke, before FSU, the open date and before GT. Also, we usually get them postgame and that is also going away. No postgame comments from the coordinators.
I asked why, and was told it was new procedures put in place by Coach Swinney after an extensive off season review of media procedures.
Just wanted to give you a heads up.

It's not anymore disappointing than the same O coach speak we hear every time they're asked a question.

Or tell Dabo that when he thinks he deserves more money, they the people who pay his salary find it hard to give him more with him taking away more of the fan interest and shutting them out!!!!! It seems that Dabo is forgetting interest of the fan base, or he just doesn't care as long as those IPTAY donations are pilling in....

One less distraction for the coordinators.
Let Dabo be the focal point for the good and the bad.
Besides, Dabo can call an audible and have them appear in other weeks depending on how the mojo goes.

Dabo is wise in doing this by:
1. Making more of these discussions come directly from him as the sole primary source. 2. Keeping his Coordinators more freed up to do their jobs in being most effective. 3. Further helping in keeping these added analysts from being overinvolved and scutinized either publicly or in relation to the Coordinators. 4. Just plain keeping communications more simplified and to the point. 5. All by design in promoting the optimal team success in the end.

Most likely came about as a direct result of Streeter's standoffish attitude when questioned about the QB situation and acting like he was above being asked the question that turned out to be the proverbial elephant in the room.

I think a LOT of this has to do with how Streeter talked in circles and contradicted Dabo on multiple occasions...........anyway, good. Let Riley focus on X's and O's and let Dabo handle the press.

I love it.
When you had seasoned guys like Brent and Chad - they needed that media experience for development to round out their head coaching skill sets
For young / new guys they need the luxury of focusing on game planning, coaching, & recruiting

Not sure how I feel about that. If it helps the team and helps us win, I guess it's a good thing. Makes me think there has been a problem in the past that he's trying to fix; a problem he doesn't want to talk about. Look, Dabo's record of success speaks for itself, and I am certainly in no position to question decisions like this, but as a Clemson fan, can't help but wonder.

Most head coaches have the philosophy, "There should only be one spokesman for the football program (or basketball or any other sport." Saban is the epitome of this philosophy. Bobby Bowden used it too. Mickey Andrews and Mark Richt seldom spoke to the press.
Looks like Dabo is heading in that direction.
Norvell gives access similar to Dabo has in the past. Coordinators and position coaches talked to the press after every Fall practice. (I'm not sure the rotation, but there were at least two interviews every day with coaches.) In the past position coaches have spoken to the press once during the week (I think it is Monday, but it might be Tuesday.)
As a fan, I love hearing the assistants speak. But, I can understand the philosophy behind only the HC talks to the press.
I wonder if Goodwin and Riley didn't approach Dabo and the idea to limit them interacting with the press isn't their idea.

A great move. Interviews only lead to more speculation and negative remarks. Pay them and let them coach. I mean the question of "so coach had you seen film that told you that other teams qb was good"?. Coach: "nah, we don't really watch film and prepare. I just kind of make it up as we go". Great move by Dabo!!!

Goodwin isn’t the most polished at the media interviews. Probably doesn’t hurt, but provides less opportunities for him to grow in that area.

even though we already have two. This sends a strong message that the leash is short and help will draw out the very best in Riley and Goodwin.
