Coach Swinney has earned the right to rest on his laurels

Coach has earned the right to hire friends & family, to provide scholarships to friends and family, to set up his staff payroll accordingly, to endlessly use cliches and coach speak, and to utilize or not utilize the PORTAL in any way he sees fit. I do not say this in jest.
Through his abilities as a coach, especially from 2012-2020, Coach has brought hundreds of millions of dollars into Clemson and the Upstate in real estate, facility improvements, infrastructure and academic programs. He has driven up Clemson applications, test scores, enrollment, and donations -- all by-products of his authenticity, organization, leadership & on-the-field success.
How long will Coach Swinney accept current staff & players riding the coattails of his championship teams? IMHO not long. 2023 will be a rebuild year, then we'll see. Go Tigers!

I would say that ANY salary in the seven digits DEMANDS results.

Rest on his laurels???? If any coach wants to rest, they should simply retire. As long as they are employed, they better churn. Especially if they are making mucho money.

No he hasn't. He is paid to put the best team he can on the field and hire the best coaching staff he can get. As to the portal, if you lose a top player then he should utilize the portal to get a top player that can help the team. And as to real estate if he doesn't get the team back on tract in 2024 he might be back to selling real estate in 2025.

Soc…. you are a great poster, but no offense, could not disagree more. Great leaders are always continuing to find better ways to do things. Dabo is actually changing, but his slow acceptance to the new environment has hurt us.
Roster management in this new era has been below subpar. Again, Dabo is changing, and we will see these changes, but they are two years late. We have literally sabotaged ourselves for no reason Thankfully, at least, our attitude towards the portal and future hires will be different going forward. I know some things that most on here don’t, and I am happy for the changes, but it did not have to be this way.

I’m assuming and/or hoping you maybe referring to an overhaul at position coaching level… and I don’t mind dabos portal philosophy as far as not taking 25 portal guys and building through recruiting bc we still recruit well… but we should be using it when we miss on guys and need a few guys at certain positions that could help us like for instance wr, OL, maybe Lb for depth … oh and a kicker that has kicked in a game would have been cool.

yeah clemson is not paying 11 million a year for past success , they are paying that much to keep up the 2015-2020 success levels. sure no one will win a title every year but its slipped quite a bit.

Dabo is responsible for all the real estate growth in the upstate. Who knew ?
That man is busy. No wonder the program has slipped some.

Dabs should take a job at Carnegie Mellon University upon retirement to teach a “statistics and probability” class. He is a professional at that. Maybe a government job. Either way,at least the kids are having fun on the field which is evident by the way they show out when they make a tackle. “Disclaimer Alert” this is satire for all y’all serious posters

He really does seem to believe he's hiring the best coaches, and that he's been the key this whole time.
He needs to stick at what he was good at, and that was actually getting the best coaches and players.
