Clemson / FSU 1989: Revenge is a dish best served cold.

The Clemson team that went to Tallahassee in 1989 to face 16th ranked Florida State, had lived an entire year with the memory of "Puntrooskie". And, they didn't like it, not one little bit.

The Terry Allen led Tigers jumped out to a 21-0 lead, and then, as Coach Bobby Bowden would say after the game "Every time we would stop the bleeding and climb back in it, Clemson would make a big play and take the momentum back. They played great. I’m very impressed with them. I’m amazed that we couldn’t stop them better.”

The final score was 34-23, but anyone who watched the game knew it was never in any doubt. “This was just a good whippin’,” said Florida State Coach Bobby Bowden. "I believe they’re better than last year. They looked like they came out with a year of frustration behind them. I think they’d heard enough about the “puntrooskie.”

Indeed, we had. Butt, we could beat them a hundred times, and the bitterness of that game will still remain. Here's to adding another great win against them, in the Valley this time, on Saturday. Go, Tigers!
