No one had any idea that it would become what it has become when they said, "Hey, I've got an idea."
3 WRs from Oregon entered the portal today.
So, why would WRs on a team that was considered the favorite to win the PAC 12 and go to the playoffs be leaving. It can't be NIL. Oregon has Phil Knight money.
It can't be a coach leaving. Lanning and his staff are secure.
So, if this can happen at Oregon, it can happen anywhere.
The portal is broken. Case closed.

Go do 1 or 2 minutes of research and you will see these guys weren't playing. 1 catch for 8 yards for the 3 kids combined. For all we know they were pushed out by Lanning to free up schollies.

.... and totally destroyed by the two previous coaches does not alter the fact that they system, which was originally implemented to allow players to transfer from their school if that school was not playing due to COVID, has mutated into a system totally unrecognizable.

The 3 guys that I think you're talking about combined for a total of 1 catch for 8 yards this season, so my guess is they're looking for playing time.
They're all been in the portal for 3-4 days now, by the way. None of them entered it today.

I’ve thought for awhile that there’s a social psychology involved.
And like everything else, it’s magnified by social media.
But I think jumping from team to team is just the cool thing to do now. And it would look totally lame if you actually stay at the same school for 3-4 years!!!

The portal is "The Big Enabler"!
People now want everything instant. Instant coffee, grits, tea, food, family, winner, etc.
Why wait seems to be the motto.
The portal enables kids to be schizophrenic and not truly commit to starting and finishing something.
The way it was before was too rigid and the portal is too loose.
That said, in the old system, if a kid had to stay or sit out a year, it ended up making many of them work harder to get that roster spot. It made better players out of them; because they had to beat somebody out. Whatever the reason they wanted to leave - they ended up most of the time sucking it up and dealing with it. That mental toughness in many cases probably is serving people to this day.
It helped many more for the good rather than bad. I have no data to support that; but you don't hear many players with horror stories related to not sticking out their time on campus.
There are certain circumstances where it's a good thing to be able to leave. But, players just leaving, because they want to be recruited again is getting out of hand.

Thought I was the only one that read this post and raised an eyebrow. FSU has literally 18-22 starters from the PORTAL. But I guess it’s only OK to use it if your program stinks and you have no choice.

It’s just like working for a corporation. You can’t get a big raise unless you change companies. Schools are not paying big money to guys they already have. The kids know thing and the tampering coaches know it too.

I think he was referring to the trend many portal players seem to leave their initial school due to money. 3 at one time does raise eyebrows especially after Nix had the year he had spreading the wealth to multiple WRs. So, it can't be scheme/offense.

Oregon will not miss any of these WRs. They left because they were low on the totem pole. The three together combined for ONE catch this season.
We can agree the portal is broken, but don't create a bogus example of why.
If Troy Franklin or Tez Johnson were involved, this would be a different conversation and the media would be all over it.
