Gonna wait for due diligence on this.
Saw where someone mentioned the gun was in the truck unloaded and could've been someone else's.
Of course, rules are rules but some context may help. I don't think it's worth kicking him off the team if it was as simple as that. However, if there was a nefarious purpose then I'm sure he's gone.

The gun my have been stolen or tampered with. Maybe he is a prohibited person and can’t own a gun. Whatever it is, there’s got to be more to it than just having a gun in his vehicle. Details would be nice.

Why does there have to be more to it than that? The laws for guns on public school campuses are pretty clear.

If you have a CWP it still has to be in a closed compartment or in the luggage compartment in a case.

That is absolutely incorrect. So I'm guess you do not own a CWP ? You should investigate further. With a CWP, it can be on the seat next to you, in your pocket, etc.

You can. But you have to have a CWP and the gun has to be secured properly.
Are we really asking "why can't you have a gun on campus" in today's world where mass school shootings have become regular? It's a law regarding public schools...not just colleges.

for mass shootings because there is no fear of reprisal from any of the many potential targets w/ a firearm. They've got at least 15 minutes of target practice while the eventual 911 call is placed + police response time. (Difficult to comprehend the thought process that would lead someone to conclude that a potential mass shooter would be deterred by a campus firearms ban. The BAN ENSURES both the active shooter's safety during his killing spree and success in murdering the unarmed human targets until police arrive–

Leave the firearm possession to the violent criminals and let the police force protect the citizenry. Please stop instructing & encouraging law abiding citizens in the proper ways of gun ownership. Discourage the notion. Criminals have rights too!
