Cade is ready to play.

He was ready in the spring game. He was ready on opening day. He was ready on homecoming. He was ready at ND.
Cade is ready to play. He is ready to lead this team.
If he was given an entire game to play I guarantee he’d perform better than our current QB1 has over the last two years.

Makes you wonder if having a great freshman QB sit the bench for a season is contributing to said regression.

Deshaun did regress over his three years here based on several metrics.
Nov 14, 2022, 9:23 PM

Completion percentage went down each year, interceptions went up each year, and QB rating went down each year. Thankfully for our coaches, he was an outstanding talent to begin with who had the “it” factor.
Where are the success stories of significant improvement in even one of our QBs over the last decade in the Elliott/Streeter regime? There aren’t any. Most have had mild improvement at best, some never seemed to improve, and some got worse.

Wouldn’t be surprising if his stats dropped some based on…

his competition alone. Check out our strength of schedule each year. But unfortunately, or conveniently, you left off the fact that his total passing yards increased every year, as did his number of TDs, despite this huge jump in competition.
Clemson strength of schedule rank: 2014: #28 2015: #1 2016: #3
Watson’s passing stats per season: 2014: 1466 yards, 67.9%, 14 TDs, 2 INTs 2015: 4109 yards, 67.8%, 35 TDs, 13 INTs 2016: 4593 yards, 67.0%, 41 TDs, 17 INTs
Only one season in the NFL has he had more than 4593 yards, and he’s never had more than 33 TDs. I’m adding the Texans to the list of teams that can’t seem to develop talent as well as the Clemson coaching staff.

Textbook regression . . . clearly.

Can't use the only metric that matters - the SCOREBOARD - because, well - in football it is elite and in basketball it sucks out loud due to our doorknob coach.

Regarding Lawrence…

If completion %, interceptions, and QBR are the metrics we are to use to measure QB development, as you suggest…
Trevor Lawrence stats by year… 2018: 65.2%, 4 INTs, 157.6 2019: 65.8%, 8 INTs, 166.7 2020: 69.2%, 5 INTs, 169.2
Then it appears TL improved during his time at Clemson.

That lawrence finished his clemson career as the #1 pick in the draft and deshaun finished his career as a national champion and the 12th pick in the draft. Imagine what those guys could have done if they hadn’t regressed while at clemson. They’d probably have won like 12 national championships and 23 superbowl mvp’s by now . . . Or better yet gone like 2-10 in making the postseason and gained a bunch of weight and started wearing sweatpants on the sideline all the time . . . Which would represent not regression but . . . progress

You mean like Watson and Lawrence
Please understand that some here will point out any negative and ignore what said players brought to the program. Never mind the circumstances around said players. Very sad little people.

Cade has not looked impressive.
It really doesn't matter who the QB is with this offensive coaching staff.

Cade would take pressure off the OLine for sure, when QB’s are mobile like him it really can open the entire offense. When they are not they can really pin their ears back.
We had a lot more QB runs vs Louisville. Maybe they are trying to get DJ put in concussion protocol. I’ve always said I thought he seems like he must have been concussed after his freshman year to play how he did. Really looked like a different player.

Mobile? Is he though? Cade has 38 rushing yards on 13 attempts. That’s less than 3 yards per carry. From what I’ve seen of his “scrambling”; it’s been him running backwards for a huge loss or sideline-to-sideline.

If he were ready, the coaches would be playing him more.
It seems that they don’t trust him.
Based on what I have seen, as well as what I’ve heard about practice, he can make some great plays but also make some dangerous ones. If he is turning the ball over a lot then he isn’t going to play much.

he hasn’t been given any time to show that.
In the spring game he was better. In his first mop up drive he was crisp.
The other times he was thrust into horrible situations and was asked to do too much.
Like I said. Give the kid a start and a whole half and see what happens. My bet is he’ll do what we recruited him to do. Execute, perform, and make plays. He has it.

Question is are you watching the games? GT he leads the team to a score in mop up duty He relieved DJ and lead Clemson to come back win ND he was put in on the 7 (seven) yard line and asked to throw a pass in 20-40 mph wind gusts Louis Ville he come in leads the team down the field until Shipley fumbles the ball and DJ comes back the next series. Hands the ball off and we get a 30 yard run for a touchdown. What in all of this tells you Cade is not ready? Or is it the EYE (I) test?

Not saying he should be playing, asking how you KNOW he’s not ready? I believe it is just parroting what you hear on the radio or TV.

He has had little support from the coaching staff or fan base, and endured weekly pep talks needed to soothe the starter's confidence level, yet he's stayed positive.

no. i think they are riding DJ to a late round draft pick to set him up for success after college. Which is right up Dabo’s playbook. He’s always put his players best interests over winning. I commend him for that. But I’m a solid orange armchair coach who likes to think out loud on a sports message board dammet

Cade is ready to play. put in bad position last 2 games,
Nov 14, 2022, 11:29 PM

but two bad mistakes, interception led to touchdown vs. N.D. At Louisville game, he should have not handed the ball to Ship in that situation, he should have kept it and try to run. I am sure Ship got pissed, as he was put in impossible situation, leading to his losing a hundred yd game and another fumble.
