Brownell has gotten more from his team than any coach in

the country this year. He won't win any awards. Tony Bennett will be ACC coach of the year. He probably won't guide his team to the dance. We'd need 4 more wins to even get in the discussion. But top to bottom as far as maximizing a roster and results from talent and experience on hand, getting people to buy in to roles, nobody has done a better coaching job this season. The Maryland team we beat today is far more skilled and talented. Honestly, I have no idea how they are just about a .500 team. They had multiple guys make plays that only KJ can make for us. Yet somehow, someway, we found a way to win. 20 wins doesn't mean as much as it used to, but it would be huge for this team and program. What would be bigger is giving Brad Brownell an extension and raise, locking him in at deserving money for when the new facilities are in place. A foundation for years of success is being laid this year, and we need to reward the builder. Very proud of this team, coach and staff!

true but the way the bids work the top 68 dont get in. After auto qualifiers there probably is room for and 35 or 40. I wish it was the top 68 or whatever

He deserves ACC COY IMO. If we win Tuesday night, then he will have completed what I consider the Trifecta of knowledge: Coach K, Turg, and Larranega. Those are the only 3 coaches in the ACC who can match wits with Brad and he will have beaten them all in 1 year. Impressive.

get the facilities upgraded and sit back and watch the show. If we let him get away we would be too sorry. A heck of a pure basketball coach.

coach in the league this year. No way a team with that kind of talent should be barely .500 I watch them play and say to myself, this team should be in the top 4 in the league. Don't know what the problem up there is

He has done a pretty good job but people act like this isn't his fourth year. The "wow, look what he has done with so little talent" argument doesn't make sense if it is the players he has scouted/recruited. Brownell has done an OK job and he obviously should not be fired but let's not go anointing the guy yet. Hopefully we will end the season well and make the tourney and then Brownell will definitely deserve a raise/extension.

better talent coming in. Thier is probably not a tougher job in the country, and we need a guy who can coach long term. He now has developed some recruiting ties, and now is the time to lock him in. It's only going to get better

and you have no idea how recruiting works

do you really think he can come in and immediately start signing 4* players? Recruiting relationships are HUGE in basketball, and those have to be built over TIME. He is improving the roster every year, just look at the players.
In the summer, we are bringing in a 4* Wing/PF and a kid at SG who is among the nation's leaders in scoring in HS.
For 2015, we are in the lead for top 100 players at: PG, SF, PF, and C. Do you know who the last top 100 player we signed was or when? 4 in one class! Think about that.

I'm not saying he might not do well in the future but I'm not going to give him credit for something that is yet to be done.

"not giving him credit" and saying "he needs to be fired".
If you are a wait and see, that is fine. Just wait and see.
But - I hope you not one of those who hold the talent on the roster AGAINST Brownell for the reasons I explained above. It takes TIME to build relationships with recruits and get them on campus. This years class ('14) is the first class he has been able to see all the way through the HS process. And we sign a top 150 kid and a top 10 grad kid. Next year's class he has been on even longer. And - like I said - we are in the lead for four 4* players and the style of player he wants.
Luke Maye is a dead eye shooter at 6'8 and will give us versatility at the 4. Rik Smits' son (yes - that Rik Smits) is a 7 footer from the midwest. Rik has said repeatedly that he wants his son to go somewhere "that can develop him". That's why we lead.
Just this past cycle, we passed on Dominique Wilkins' son in favor of Grantham. If the pros can see it, why can't you?

Striperfan is spot on. Brownell definitely needs a raise and extension. If not,Purdue or some other Big 10 team will be calling soon. Just got home from game, and he is 9-7 after being picked 14th in league. He has had horrible luck with injuries (Bgame and Rooks). With the addition of Grantham and DeVoe,we will have a significant talent upgrade. He is light years ahead of Gottfried and Turgeon when it comes to X's and O's. Huge mistake if we don't lock him down.
