RIP Billy Packer. I'm 52. Growing up he was the voice of the final 4. Even today odd not hearing his voice come final 4 weekend. One of thr best to ever to do it.

Grew up watching Packer and Thacker on ACC basketball. Very sad, today. RIP.

That's going a "little" ways back in the day. My memory is not what it used to be, but I think that was in the 80's. You're right, ACC basketball was the King then.

He was a main reason the ACC was so prominent in the TV market. Before he went national he was the voice of ACC basketball. That was when ACC basketball was THE best basketball league in the history of college basketball. Oddly this is when the ACC did not win national championships.

Always enjoyed Billy’s work. Packman did fall far from the tree. Wide open, always with an opinion, and always hustling. What a wonderful life — from CDC (Sail with the Pilot) Game of the Week to national impact at NBC and CBS. He was one of the large voices of college basketball. Prayers to the Packer family.

Man, what sad news! I have a great story about the time I met Billy Packer. We were at the inaugural Jimmy V Golf Tournament - I was 8 or 9 years old at the time, my brother was 4. We had gotten to a spot where Billy Packer was on the course, and there were a group of people around and he asked "if anyone can give me the phone number to Mr. Cash you get my lunch!" and my brother and I rattled that number off so fast, we got Billy Packer's lunch.

Billy was the best analyst for a long long time and really set the standard for those that came after him. Condolences to Mark and the entire family. I know he will be greatly missed.
