Don't believe we've ever been invited to the Poulan Weed Eater Bowl. That's a disappointment. Or the New Era Pin Stripes Bowl in the Bronx ...which is disheartening. How about that Go Daddy.com Bowl...I mean their commercials speak for themselves ( looking at you , Danica ?? ) . There's only about 640 bowl games now ...did you want a comprehensive list of each we haven't attended ?

We lost in Shreveport in 1985 to the Gophers. No sure who the sponsor was then. Place was a dump.

It used to be that there were four big time bowls, the oldest bowls - the Rose, Orange, Sugar, and Cotton. The Fiesta has now moved into this upper echelon, while the Cotton has kind of dropped down a bit. Clemson has played in all of these "blue bloods" except the Rose; the Coots have appeared in none of these, ever. We've played in the Orange the most of this group.
The next tier was/is the Gator and Peach, and of course we've appeared in both many times. After that it's all over the place. Lots of bowls, many of which we've played in, many we should be thankful we have not. I live an hour from Shreveport, site of the independence bowl where we played in 85 as was mentioned above - it's still a dump.
I consider myself fortunate to have attended the 78 Gator when Woody Hayes slugged Charlie Bauman. Those were student days, and we were pretty liquored up, and didn't really know what happened until we heard it in the radio after the game. Just thought it was a sideline brawl . But that, to me, is when the modern era of Clemson football began. With that win (and Danny's first as a head coach) was when we kind of got back on the map of big time football for the first time since the 1950s. Of course we are in an even greater era now. Be thankful you're seeing this - I had to wait a long time to see us get back to (and beyond) where we were in the 80s.

Memories! Was also at the 78 Gator Bowl. Was awesome especially after the trip the year before when we sat and watched Pitt demolish us.

For about 50 years, the Rose Bowl had an exclusive deal for the pac champ to play the big 10-ish champ. Clemson, and most other schools, would not have been eligible before the season even started.

That's the main reason I was hoping we'd play out there this year. The Rose Bowl was a closed membership for so long.

The Rose Bowl is still reserved for the PAC 12 and the Big 10 in the two out of three years it is not serving as a semifinal site. Clemson has played in 4 of the 6 New Year's Six Bowls. The Tigers have played in the Orange, Super, Cotton, and Fiesta Bowls. We have not played in Rose and Peach Bowls. This is only the fourth year the Peach has been considered a Major Bowl.
