he was not out of the base path.they called him out by contact, not "out of the base path".

Re: you have never played baseball, have you.

Jun 3, 2012, 1:08 PM

I have played baseball for well over 13 years. Little League, AAU, High School, and others. I was always taught to avoid the player with the ball. He was blocking the base line and did what he had to do to try to get by.

BS....rule says you're to avoid contact with the fielder...

Jun 3, 2012, 1:00 PM

3b was out of the line. To be in the line to 3b, he should have drilled the fielder...then you get called out again.

BS play. Shoulda drilled him and made sure the ball came loose.

Jun 3, 2012, 1:10 PM

Then why wasn't the USC runner in the ninth inning last night called out as soon as he avoided Kieboom's tag near home plate? He was well beyond 3 feet outside of the baseline, but the umpire did not call him out right away.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Great question!***

Moreover....

Jun 3, 2012, 1:39 PM [ in reply to Re: That was the right call - he was out. ]

There was NO tag on Brittle. The fielder never caught the ball, so the rule about being out of the baseline doesn't apply there. Gotta have the ball in your glove to attempt a legal tag.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: That was the right call - he was out.

Jun 3, 2012, 1:43 PM [ in reply to Re: That was the right call - he was out. ]

last night, kite boom had possession, the coot was way outta the baseline, but spencer still made the play because he had possession of the ball.

Today, the third sacker did not have possession "to make the play". Would think the base ump would know that to make a play, you gotta have control of the ball.

Re: That was the right call - he was out.

Jun 3, 2012, 2:40 PM

To be called out for running out of the baseline it has to be to avoid the tag. A tag can't be made without the ball.
