Just reading the lead article on Tigernet about Mafah and Shipley and our ball security issues this year. It seems that the years that we lost to to the Gamecocks, particularly during the Clowney years for sure, turnovers were our nemesis. Hopefully that doesn’t haunt us on Saturday as it has this year. Although there is some luck always involved, good or bad in turnovers (tipped passes etc.), when it comes to fumbling it is a matter of toughness at impact. At that moment a coach can’t coach. The runner has to wrap it up, be stronger mentally and physically, and want it more than the person tackling him. All while trying to cross the line to gain or the goal line. It is similar to rebounding in basketball, where it is a matter of being in the right position and blocking out, but ultimately then becomes about desire and toughness, and wanting that ball off the rim or glass more than your opponent. Here’s to us out toughing the Gamecocks, not only in ball security and the turnover margin on Saturday night, but in all aspects of the game, including our coaching and the spirit of our fans. Go Tigers! Impose your will. 🐾
