Are Christmas Memories

our best childhood memories? They are for me. As a child growing up poor, Christmas meant I got one new toy and a few pieces of hard candy. And a silver dollar from Grandpa. I took really good care of that toy. One year I got a football. Another year a baseball glove. A red ryder BB gun as I got older. I don't remember ever having a white Christmas even though I always wanted to see one.

Christmas memories are some of the best ones .
I grew up poor as well , Dad died at an early age and mom had 4 to raise by herself , so 1 or 2 small gifts it was .
In 78 or 79 i got my first Clemson banner for my room , on of the triangle ones , some good times .

Go Tigers !!

A Christmas Story - When you get the official Red Ryder, carbine-action, two-hundred-shot range model air rifle for Christmas.

I would have been happy as a pig in slop if I had gotten all that cowboy outfit but Of course I would never have been able to wear it outside the house. My friends were also very poor and would have shamed me to death over it. But we did play a lot of cowboys and Indians. Got a set of cap pistols and holsters with a box of those cap pistol rolls one year. I loved the smell of that smoke from those fired off cap pistol shots. Had those cap pistols for years and passed them down to my nephew.

Not for me. My Dad was always p-off at my Mom for spending too much money. I like it better now as an adult.

I remember 6th grade Christmas well when I got measles the very day school was over and had to isolate in my darkened bedroom for 2 weeks. We thought measles could damage your vision if you were exposed to too much sun, light, etc. Was ok
For first school day after break though. D###!

My dad passed when I was 4, so my mom had to raise 4 kids (3 girls, 1 boy) by herself. She didn't speak any English, but somehow found work. We moved alot and was very poor. We usually only got candy for Christmas. My mom would start buying candy in the beginning of the year and we would each get a bag. I can remember going to churches and getting coats sometimes. We didn't get toys but on our birthday if she could afford it. We never had a Christmas tree or decorated, but usually spent Christmas in church. Christmas was really the only holiday we celebrated besides Thanksgiving.

I was born in 84, and yes my childhood Christmas memories were very fond. My dad would put baby powder on some large boots that would leave white footprints from our gifts to the chimney, next to the eaten cookie and milk. I had 2 sibling and we all thought how cool this was. My dad passed away last Thanksgiving which makes me hold those memories even closer.

I was not exactly poor, but no extra money.

My birthday is December 7 so that jams up with Christmas.

I feel bad for y’all. I grew up upper middle class and I remember christmases where we got skis and snowboards and a trip to Utah for snowboard lessons, Nintendo and everything. I can’t imagine what it was like only getting one gift :(
