After talking with

Mark Packer yesterday about coach Barnes tenure at Clemson I realized that his philosophy with the basketball team was very similar to the philosophy that coach Swinney has with the football team. Both have used similar ideas to get their teams motived to play at a high level. I had never thought about this until Packer said that they both play the underdog, nobody has respect for us, everyone is out to get little old Clemson approach to their players. Would you agree that this is a true statement? I think it is.
What is equally as interesting is both coaches came from similar childhoods. Coach Barnes had a tough time growing up in Hickory in a single parent home with only a mother to offer support to a young family. Of course we have all heard of Dabos early years. I found this a very interesting story of two guys who are perhaps more alike that I would have imagined.

But I wouldn't say they are anything alike.

Except Barnes left us high and dry, albeit for a better job, and hid behind the public school system in SC as his excuse. He did an amazing job of engaging the student body, convincing us that basketball was about to be something special at Clemson. Then *poof* he was gone.
If I am being honest, I wouldn't spit on Rick Barnes if he was on fire.

If the Tigers had been in a position to match the Texas offer, he likely would have stayed. The rumors that his wife didn’t like the school system was that ... a rumor. Completely unfounded, if you have evidence that existed please refer to it. You can’t blame him for turning down millions of dollars to be at a more established basketball school with the facilities in place.
Strange that many who are critical of Barnes for leaving accept Purnells way of leaving Clemson perfectly ok. It wasn’t!!!

the need to leave Clemson to get a "better" job. We were, and are, in the best basketball conference in the country, and yet the powers that be treat basketball like the proverbial red haired step child. &^^%$#@ it!

If it had simply been about 'a better job' he wouldn't have

left under the cloud of speculation and he daamn sure wouldn't have made up the nonsense about the public school system and left with that parting insult, nor would he have blamed his wife for the move. Everybody knew Texas had a lot more money and a lot better facilities and resources. He wouldn't have been blamed for bettering his situation.
I've seen way too much smoke over the years about the infidelity thing to not believe there was at least some fire somewhere. He was a young guy at the time and probably a little big for his britches with all the love he was getting from media and fans. I loved it when he stood up to Dean Smith but after leaving the way he did I hope he never wins another game.

The stories of the missus having an aversion to drawers in the parent pickup line are hilarious...
