Well, gosh, Tom, something sure changed over there.
I wonder what it might be? Because it is apparently brushfire out of control now, and they are losing people at a wondrous rate, and the official government counts are, according to everyone on the ground, gross undercounts. Best estimate is they're probably losing 10K a day right now, minimum, and if they get out with under a million dead it's going to be a miracle. Their death counts are off the charts, whatever their "official" causes of death might be.
But I have no doubt Tom is going to stand here saying it's all bullsh!t and some vast media conspiracy, even as the bodies are stacking up.

No no, this isn't a "COVID is a hoax" post, this is a "masks are fascism" post.

My understanding of what happened in India was, people just relaxed. They laid off the social distancing, the mask-wearing, stopped taking precautions, acted like it was over...and bam, before they knew what was happening, brushfire. They've got a really dense population density and nobody was vaxxed and apparently they had very little immunity built up, and from what I understand, there's also apparently a fairly nasty variant involved that spreads faster than the original. Perfect storm.
The next thing they knew, they're dropping like flies.

Was that his point? I didn't see any words, just a graph.
Yes, mask mandates are stupid, but people are also stupid and mandates are the only way to get stupid people to do things.
I'm thinking the situation in India may be slightly more complex than one twitter-sourced chart with a few quotes about mask-wearing might imply. People who know more than I, or Tom, or the twitter-chart-maker, seem to be suggesting it's a multifactorial combination of their ludicrous population density, unrestricted travel now that their lockdowns and economy are opened up (which quite frankly had to be done, they were suffering), massive social gatherings for religious festivals, the prevalence of the B117 variant, and their terrible vaccine rollout so far.
There may actually be an important lesson here, that a country that didn't vaccinate enough people got cocky, opened everything up, and is getting wrecked.

It would help a lot if he leaned hard on the likes of Fox News, Tucker Carlson, and Alex Jones to knock the conspiracy theory crap off and take the vax themselves. They respond to Alpha Dog stuff; if he growls angrily at them, they'll shut their mouths and do as they're told...and their loyal listeners will duly follow right along, and we hit that threshold in the next two weeks and COVID vanishes here in the US of A. We have more than ample vaccine for that and honestly I think it'd be a tremendous way for Trump to flex and show everybody just how powerful and relevant he actually still was, and how much reach he actually does have.
But for whatever reason he refuses to lead, he just disrupts, disrupts, disrupts. It's one of the most enraging things about him.

thwarting Covid (it's really the only thing), and Trump deserves a tremendous amount of credit for getting it up and rolling so quickly. Unfortunately, as you have pointed out, he has failed miserably at championing what could have been his greatest acheivement by assuring everyone that the vaccine was safe and that getting it would save lives, and that it was the patriotic thing to do. He should have banged that drum non-stop with the same energy he devoted to ... well, many other things. As someone who voted for him and supported most of his policies, it was just one more frustrating missed opportunity to leave a very different legacy.

Why does this matter? If a risk is well known and understood

by the public, and a safeguard is offered, and some in the public, making an informed decision, decide to not use the safeguard, no one then bears any responsibility. We can stop the handwringing and whining.
One can make a case that vaccines must be mandatory by the same logic as seat belts (the public ends up paying the cost of the injuries). One can also make a case that those two examples do not relate. And in any case, no experimental drug should be mandatory. But whatever side one is on, if some people willingly choose to go it unprotected, that is their right and the rest of us can forget about it.
No need to whine, fret and blame. Unless we're addicted to it.

show where a dozen randomized tests have shown no effect on population infection. You can show that no test has shown effectiveness. You can show how math predicts those outcomes (imagine a 90% effective condom, which would be worthless over a few weeks time). Doesn't matter. Masks are ideological/political, and no rationality can fight that.
Yes, before immunization I wore one, because it can stop an infection in the single next encounter (and life's too short to put up with a Karen). But no, they cannot stop the spread in a population with many encounters every day by every person. If they could, one RCT, somewhere, would show it. But none do.
The point of the graph, which some posters here ignore, is that mask wearing in India does not relate to infection rate, just as it hasn't in every RTC.

Mandates like abiding by law enforcements demands as you are pulled over? Mandates about not owing firearms if you are a felon or a violent criminal? Yeah, how does that work out bro? Mask had no impact one way or another.

He’s been watching a bunch of alternative medicine videos that blame everything disease from cancer to infectious diseases on some mythical lack of host “vitality” or something either present or lacking in their diet.
Next we’ll hear all about leaky gut, toxins, essential oils, and prayer healing. Pretty standard, vanilla anti-established medicine stuff from our resident conspiracist. Medicine is the establishment man, they all lie to us for profits, the only healing you need is by realigning your chakras.
