I always thought he was a good guy. Had a rock hill guy as his OC, Jimmy Kiser.

Yep, always thought well of him, a Gentleman, clean competitor and winner.

If he had not had health issues, and stayed at NCSU longer

after Furman, the sky was the limit for him, imo. Probably needed to be at a place besides State, but he was the real deal.

Thorn in our side for a bit in the 80's... rung up a 4-3 record against the Tigers while head coach at NC State. Sad to hear of his passing.

He was the opposite of NC State's current coach.

Dang. I grew up pretty close to Furman’s campus and kept up with their football program. Never heard anything bad about the guy.

I always thought he was class guy and outstanding coach. I never heard definitively why he just stopped coaching. I did hear health problems, but it seems there was more to it than that considering how much longer he was with us. Really, you just never heard anything much about him after he retired ...... kind of like Khalil Greene.
