Many of the younger crowd probably don't realize that fewer games were played "back then". During my 1962-66 years at Clemson only 10 games were on the regular season schedule, versus 12 games today.

'Twas all of 14 years old and in The Valley with my Dad . . . pulling for the Wolfpack! Yikes! But all that changed in 1971 when I entered Clemson as a freshman.
BTW, the 4-4 Tigers beat the undefeated and 10th-ranked Wolfpack that day, 14-6!!
Go, Tigers!

Yep, i was there....freshman. First game was 1963, Maryland i think. Have a silent home movie of "the most exciting 25 seconds in college football" which happened about an hour before gametime without much fanfare.

We got blown out. I was 12 years old. My first true Clemson game was properly around 1971 or '72 down in Atlanta VS. GA Tech. Kinda sorta remembered that game. I also remembered going to a Wake Forest game in the early 70's in Winston-Salem with my Dad. That was when we lived in Salisbury North Carolina.

2003 freshman year - Florida state!!!!
They were ranked No. 2 in the nation, and all my friends i invited to come up for the game we’re stoked, but I kept hearing that they wish that we could actually have a chance to win the game! We all stood on the hill to watch Tommy beat his daddy for the first time, and then proceeded to tear down the goal post, and then paraded it all around campus and tried to take it downtown but the cops maced us as we are just across the street from Subway, and so we ran away with it and threw it in the pool by the library and I still have a piece of it at my house today!!!!
What a year to start following Tiger football for real!!! That game along with 63-17 and our peach bowl win over Tennessee!!! Been a die hard fanatic fan ever since!! Haha
Go tigers!!!

They were ranked like 18th and we were above around 12th and we lost in a close game. My buddy's grandmother lived in Clemson and had season tickets from her tenured husband that had passed away. She was one grouchy lady. Thankfully we had most the day away from her as we walked about 5mi to the game and 5mi back, she didnt want to drive us and we were happy.

freshman year. I actually grew up in a house where and older brother and older sister had both gone to Coot U. I thought I was a Coot fan, too. But, Clemson offered Chemical Engineering, and if USuK even HAD an Engineering school back then, it wasn't much thought of. So, I said, I'll go to Clemson, but still root for South Carolina.
That all ended on Sept 9, 1972. The pageantry of college football in Death Valley swept all that foolishness away, and my blood was permanently dyed orange for all time. It wound up being the toughest 4.5 years of my life, and I wouldn't trade them for anything on this earth.

I have no idea which game or exactly when, as it predates my ability to rember or be aware of such things. The first one I can recall was Clemson vs. South Carolina in 1966, when Jimmy "The Needle" Addison was a star QB and Buddy Gore was a star RB.

Thanks to a gracious invitation from different posters on T-net, a friend of mine and I came up to Clemson and had a great time tail-gating and watching the game.
Also, thanks to another generous invitation, we'll be back this Fall for the Wake game.
Note: In the season of 1994 I saw several baseball games. Coach Leggett was a youngster.

Think it was at 6 years old with my Grandmother vs. Alabama in ‘67. We lost 13-10. First early real memory is ‘72 in the cold mist vs. USuCk. We won 7-6 on a stopped two point conversion in the final minute. From ‘72 on, I didn’t miss many games. My Dad played on the ‘47 to ‘49 teams and we had season tickets forever.

Of course back then games only lasted about an hour. You drove up to the stadium and parked. Tailgating didn't exist.
Been a Tiger fan my whole life since then...

Maryland in 1967. I was a senior in high school and for some reason was invited by Clemson along with another guy from my high school to visit. I drove us up to Clemson from Charleston which was the first time my folks let me drive out of town. It was Homecoming and I recall being blown away by the displays on Bowman and the area in front of the loggia. Clemson put a few of us up in some vacant dorm rooms in the basement of one of the frat buildings. There was a party going on Friday night and oddly enough, no one was checking IDs on the frat quad. We were supposed to be at a breakfast at 0800 on Friday morning in the Clemson House. We got there hung over and late.
We beat Maryland on Saturday. I went to Clemson. My buddy went to South Carolina.
BTW,the first Clemson game I ever saw live was in Columbia on Big Thursday in 1955. My Mom had a cousin who played for the Gamecocks and that somehow got me into the game. I remember being disappointed in not spending more time at the fair.

1953, my brother's Sophomore year, Clemson vs Wake Forest, it rained. I was 7 ears old and that's what I remember.
