Kurt Fleming

Where the hell is Kurt Fleming on 4th and 1. He would get that yard 90% of the time. Dude is a beast

I think he has a better chance than that. Of his last 10 attempts, he has made it 12 times!

Wouldn't it be 4th and SIX - not 4th and 5 after the 5-yard penalty?

Just nitpicking. Yeah - he made a mistake - dang - big whoop. Yeah he fumbled ONCE - big whoop again. Wow - no other CLEMSON player has had a false start penalty or fumbled. Glad to hear THOSE are the only reasons for not letting the big man run. You do realize that he is the ONLY player we have that can carry defenders for several yards - and probably just let's them jump on him just to let them know it doesn't matter. Fleming is the ONLY short-yardage back that we need. We're just too dang stupid to use him.

Re: We brought him in during the UNC game

Oct 15, 2014, 4:46 PM

SO SICK OF THE FLEMING TALK! HE PLAYED WELL AGAINST SC STATE AND EVEN FUMBLED THEN. EVERY OTHER TIME HE HAS BEEN IN, HE HAS MADE MISTAKES. LEAVE IT ALONE!!!!! The Coaches will put him in when they feel he isn't going to shoot us in the foot.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agreed - the coaches know best. However, it's absurd to

Oct 15, 2014, 6:20 PM

draw the conclusion that simply because he fumbled and had a false start, as many seem to believe, that therefore he shouldn't be playing. We have receivers dropping balls and O-linemen missing blocks and players making mistakes every week.

I'm not saying that Fleming IS deserving of more carries; the coaches have indicated that he's not quite there and that's good enough for me. A bunch of knee-jerking fans assuming that he's not ready because he made a few mistakes is not.

Re: We brought him in during the UNC game

Oct 15, 2014, 7:03 PM [ in reply to Re: We brought him in during the UNC game ]

So by your conclusion on Flemming; Cole stoudt, Mike Williams and several other players on our team should never see the field again? Mind you we had one player ( a fifth year SR) throw to a cardinal defense all day then fall on the ground in the red zone with enough seconds on the clock to get a fg attempt in with a spike of the ball. Also by your conclusion, nearly half of the RBS in the NFL shouldn't be playing right now seeing that most of them have fumbled a few times in their career. I say put him in at this point. See what happens.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You're missing the big picture

Oct 15, 2014, 7:53 PM

The coaches don't trust him. That's not his fault, he hasn't played football in several years, and it shows. They gave him another shot in the UNC game, and he just proved why they don't trust him yet. He will get better, but at this point, forcing him to play when he simply isn't ready isn't really fair to him.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree that we can assume, based on the fact that Fleming

Oct 15, 2014, 8:10 PM

is 4th string, AND the fact that coaches have said that he's not quite ready, that he's not quite ready. What we have seen does support that. It would be a mistake, however, to assume that he is fumble prone because he fumbled in very limited action.

Re: Kurt Fleming

Oct 15, 2014, 6:15 PM

It seems every time we get a first down in the red zone. It's 1st and goal at the 9 then we go backwards for 2 plays then throw it out the back of the end zone. Our bad play calling down there cost us the FSU game. It dose not seem to be getting better either.

Is young, and fumbled twice in the only game he played in...

Oct 15, 2014, 7:11 PM

against SC State's 2nd and 3rd stringers. I believe that is why you haven't seen him since. There is upside with Fleming, but he wouldn't make a difference with our poor oline play. Adam Choice has huge legs and is low to the ground, yet he can't pick up on short yardage behind our terrible oline.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Is young, and fumbled twice in the only game he played in...

Oct 15, 2014, 7:23 PM

Yes, I agree with the whole O-line discussion, but at this point I'm ready to see something else in short yardage situations besides a QB read option play from the shotgun. 20 or so attempts later and yet no one is still fooled by it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You may not be saying it exactly, but I disagree completely

Oct 15, 2014, 8:06 PM [ in reply to Is young, and fumbled twice in the only game he played in... ]

with the notion that the reason Fleming isn't playing is because he is fumble-prone. Yes, he did fumble once, and was credited with another during the exchange with the 3rd string QB (which may have been a bad handoff). Obviously, coaches have him 4th string for a reason, and I believe he is just behind other players in many aspects of the game, who unlike Fleming have years of recent football experience. He may carry the ball 200 more times without a fumble; the sample size is way to small at this point to label him. Why not say Mike Williams is "drop prone" after the UGA game and not allow him to play any more. Why not keep Ammon Lakip on the bench since he can't make a field goal? Why not bench every O-lineman that misses a block or two? Fleming may be fumble prone, but we sure have no way of making that determination.

Btw, I do agree about our OL; needs a lot of work.

I agree we need to put him in more short yardage

Oct 15, 2014, 10:39 PM

Situations but idc how big you are, all you need to do is get hit at the legs and you'll go down. Seems like he's been a lost cause since the Scst game. Maybe the coaches are putting a harsh punishment on him for fumbling the ball and letting scst getting there only TD of the game. Regardless we need to try him or DJ Reader more at short yardage situations. I bet Boulware vs Flemming is a fun matchup to watch during practice.
