My not so humble opinion on no longer running the read option and other things o

DJ made the wrong read about half the time on the read option and when he made the right read and kept it he ran like he was pulling a sled for the first 3 steps. He couldn't even outrun Defensive lineman. Much less linebackers. The two or three times per game we tried it with Cade in the past he also makes the wrong read half the time. Cade is much better in an up tempo, no huddle, hurry up offense. But we can't do that this year for some reason. Last year was fine with only some small improvements to be made with Cade But this year Cade is more like the first 6 games of 2023 or the Bowl game against TN. We can't run the West Coast offense because you need a QB who is accurate, whose timing is impeccable with his receivers, who gets the ball out quickly, who has a high completion %, etc... which then allowed the running game to succeed because it opened up gaps due to spreading the field. Since Cade can't seem to do this skill set consistently like Trevor and Deshaun him and DJ must have a running game to open up the passing game. Instead of vice versa with T-Law and Watson. They both could set up the run with the pass. Cade and DJ have to have a solid running game including a mobile QB who makes the right reads on the read option and runs the ball also with designed runs. DJ and Cade both can't seem to do that. Our offense has been limited severely for 5 years because of QBs who don't have the necessary skills to compete in todays college/semi-pro football. Todays modern QB must be very good or excellent at all skill levels. He can't have a couple of skills that he's missing or sub-par like before. Because it's too easy for these modern day defensive coordinators to exploit the QBs weaknesses. All they have to do is stuff the run by loading the box and Blitz more than half the time and rattle Cade or DJ and it's all over but the crying. Because they both can't beat you with the pass consistently enough to beat you or put you away. Only rarely. Some things can't be coached out of a player. So, why doesn't Cade get pulled out of the game when he is screwing up and costing the team a game or letting an inferior team stick around? That is the million $ question. Why won't Dabo Bench anybody? Dabo definitely won't start players for several reasons BUT once you become a starter at Clemson it is virtual impossible to lose your spot with Dabo.

I can assure you that I have grammatical skills. But I typed that post in a hurry and didn't feel like correcting it after I proof read it. I assumed readers would get my point and overlook the errors. Would you like to comment on the post or do you just want to criticize? I bet your a blast to hang out with and have lots of friends.

Read option plays actually work with a QB that can first, actually read the defense...

It's not that difficult. The QB doesn't have to read the whole defense as you say. He just needs to read the unblocked Defensive end or outside Linebacker. The only problem is the "read" has to be done quickly . Probably more quickly in todays semi-pro college football than in decades past. He can't hesitate or be scared.

The first read is most often a DB, thus R_unP_assOption. If the DB drops...

in PassPro, the QB should decide Run, then reads the DE or LB, which ever flashes first and if they crash on the dive, he's pulling and taking it himself.
Ball side, time is of the essence and a huge need as the OL is firing off to run block, backside OL is likely seal blocking. OL ball side backs are to the play so they don't know the Option choice. If the DB walks up into a run fit, the QB should choose Pass and has to get it out before the OL is 3 yards from the LOS.
That 3 yards is the IMD rule, which used to be Zero in the NFL?
Kelly Bryant got replaced in the rotation by a transfer, walk-on and was the forgotten man, even after being theChad's original chosen one. When he beat out Hunter for the starting gig, Coach Scott was asked what had Kelly done to improve? Simply, Kelly had finally learned to get the ball out on time.

Just to name a few....Rodney Williams, Homer Jordon and Steve Fuller is my top three Clemson QB's that could that could perfectly navigate the read option I realize the offense was different but the option isn't.

HUNH is an interesting thing, that many teams have limited in recent years...

Clemson ran 101 offensive plays in the Orange Bowl against Tennessee?
It's many faceted & with anything, reliant on execution, staying on s-cript, which results in a rhythm appealing to the casual eye?
TCU ran 69.9? plays a game GR's last year and went to the NCG; BS and Clemson ran 76.4? that same year, BS was shown the door?
I threw some thoughts together about it in 2023...

The number between the date & Clemson, is the number of teams according to TR at the time that had 80+ plays per game that particular season.

I read the link. Could it be the reason for less offensive plays during that stretch is because Clemson was scoring so quickly due to big plays?

Remember - TN team we played in the bowl gave up a zillion points to S.Carolina

This factoid is to remind everyone that the TN team we played two games after S.Carolina beat in that nail biter in The Valley. S.Carolina did not have a special offense, yet they put up video game points while beating that 2022 TN team.
TN’s defense was below average. Yet, they crushed us like a grape when we got to red zone.
Pretty much as most teams have crushed us in the red zone since CK2 became QB.
As if already stated (many times) criticism of CK2 as a player isn’t enough, he isn’t anything special as a runner or a scrambler. In addition to slow reads and then a slow trigger after he makes the reads, he is not shifty runner. Terrific linear speed, truly exceptional. But his running cuts are mediocre. His scrambling is not quick evasive moves; rather, he takes off in a specific direction and outruns the defender while not being able to either look downfield effectively or to position his body to make a ‘form throw’ pass with accuracy and ball speed.
Of course, he doesn’t have a shortstop type arm where he can make accurate throws from multiple arm slots.
I think the experiment is over.

Oftentimes CK is able to use his initial quickness to get away from defenders but once gaining space, doesn't slow down & square his hips to attempt a throw to a usually open receiver...especially rolling left.
