Clemson has always been woke. I was there in the 2000s and we had all kinds of DEI and inclusion classes. They protested the Calhoun Honors College, even though it's literally his property his family gave the state. They protested taco night as being culturally insensitive. College students are by and large idiots.

I am neither racist nor ignorant. I love all races. My Mom's side of the family is Jewish and came to USA with nothing after WWIi. I was raised by my Japanese step-dad who was in a Japanese internment camp during WWII. I just know how they did it. I think lowering the bar for affirmative action hurts people at this stage. I think it is time for DEI and Affirmative Action to be no more.

False premise, it’s not one person. It’s widespread and there is plenty of legal precedent to support that.
Disagreeing with the implementation of DEI as a solution is good debate and I’m here for that. I’ve seen it fail far more often than succeed, but the successes are powerful and worth studying. Disagreeing with the federal governments charge to defend the rights of its own citizens flies in the face of the founding of this county and the entire social fabric it is based on.

I work for a large corporation. Somehow I have not ever used any sort of DEI policy although my company like many others had it. We had to complete the outdated affirmative action BS annually but I never let that influence my hiring decisions one bit.
Lo and behold the 60 plus employees that I manage are black, white, Hispanic, gay, lesbian, Muslim, trans, Christian, etc. Yes we have hired and have them all. I hire the best person for the job and look what happens you still get a great group of diverse people.
I 100% get where it was needed in the past. I just think we have moved past it for the most part at this point.

Hiring anyone based on race or color is wrong. Hiring should solely be based on qualifications.
I don’t care what color or race you are the best and most qualified should be hired. If you have a room with 15 white people and 15 Black people. And it just so happens that the 15 Black people had the best qualifications on the resume. Then that’s who should be hired and vice versa.
I wouldn’t cut it off and say well we’ve hit our quota of white people. We have to hire at least two Black people to make sure we have the right ratio of black to white.

DEI is a form of discrimination itself. Everything should be merit based and colorblind. Why not practice DEI in the NFL or NBA ? I would personally be against that because DEI doesn’t make anything stronger or elevate performance, it actually weakens. We should strive for excellence in everything and choose the most qualified across the board no matter what the color of skin, gender, or sexual orientation.

The reason they don’t need DEI in the professional sports is because the performance is incredibly public and the landscape is so competitive that it eliminates the larger need for rules to keep an honest man honest. Move to back office and the metrics are much murkier, but one would think wins and losses would still be a good measure, but Brian Flores got fired from Miami for refusing to tank games and break rules while seemingly turning a program around. Head scratcher for sure.
DEI can be abused and perverted like any other policy, but behind the veil of ignorance I prefer a world where we are openly trying to address hiring issues than one that gives greedy corporate pigs another rug to sweep their wasteful, fraudulent mistakes under.
