I love it when I hear a relatively young coach like Wes say
Dec 23, 2021, 9:13 AM
|
|
that he loves Clemson and is "In it for the long haul". He is young enough that, if he continues to have success here, he could one day be considered as a possible successor to Dabo, when Dabo decides he has had enough.

Well, I am super stoked about what he brings to the table BUT now that it is out that he was indeed BVs special sauce and was actually the "sign stealer" (which is just his photographic memory of formations) every opponent will work around him being able to visually remember formations and will alter their entire game plans now. No more looking go the sidelines for plays then lining up, it'll be wristband plays calls in the huddle, fast line-ups & quick snaps so he won't be able to call a play in. Bit it won't matter, WG will figure out how to read lips or watch the QBs feet or hands for giveaways ??. Can't wait to see this guy Rainman his way to a 1st yr Natty, assistant COY award, & #1 defense. Go Tigers!

I am super excited about Wes!

I know he has been a big factor in our defensive success recently, and I am excited that he is being given a more prominent role. Dabo obviously believes in him, which says a lot.

Photographic memory is great but can it be coupled to be executed on and not causing decision paralysis? (which was often a critique of our D ... late play calling)
Some people are great behind the scenes people ... some out front. Guess we will see if Wes can be the main guy. I hope he can be, but we have absolutely nothing to base it on outside of faith in Dabo.
(which honestly i'm wavering on with his attitude recently)
With that flame away and call me a coot.

Nah, not going to call you a coot. I understand what you're saying. Hey, it's a gamble on Dabo's part too. Wes hasn't been a position coach. Not really on the field experience. But we have Conn, that should help a ton.
Don't agree with the wavering part. Dabo's been defensive all year. He gets that way when he's criticized by us fans.
I do feel a lot more comfortable the more I read about Wes. And as most everyone, actually very exciting to see he and Brandon.

I have friends who absolutely despise Dabo's holier than thou stances over the years. Up until this year I never saw it or believed it.
However, this year he has doubled down on it. His insistence that he is right and that we need to show faith based on past successes. That to me signals an insular leadership and organizational structure which is a problem.
He has been slow on the portal He was slow on recognizing our offensive struggles He was slow on communicating the coordinator replacement process He was slow on choosing his coordinators
He has been combative and frankly a jerk. This is not the humble Dabo from 2014.
Listen, I want Dabo to succeed the right way. He has been doing it thus far ... but currently his actions are not creating confidence in our ability to STAY at the top. That is what his legacy will be built on. Can he succeed without DW4 and TL16. The jury is still out.

He has been slow on the portal: Yep. He has a philosophy and a culture that he wants to maintain. He promised kids when he recruited them that if they worked hard and stuck to their commitments he would stay committed to them. Bringing in mercenary players would make him a liar and those kids wouldn't appreciate it. He has been slow on recognizing offensive struggles: Dabo is a motivator and an optimist. Publicly dressing down his offensive players doesn't help build confidence or team chemistry. He knows his team better than whiny fans He was slow on communicating the coordinator replacement process: He didn't need to explain the process to whiny fans. He had his picks and waited until BOT approval to announce them He was slow on choosing his coordinators: This is just flat out wrong. He had his coordinators chosen long before the previous coaches left. As previously stated they have to be BOT approved before announcing them

When schools have significant movements in their staffs, they communicate openly ... especially in recruiting time periods.
Lets be real....we blew this recruiting cycle. Totally and completely.
Secondly, we can keep using the "mercenary" excuse, but how does Dabo's culture fit in by giving coaches kids scholarships? Yes we justify it by them being "walk ons" and the team voting for them, but what kid is gonna say no?
In addition, he is preventing kids with real needs at a hand up to avoid paying $20K a year on a $9m salary. His children are stealing away the opportunities of kids facing tremendous hardships and in need of the real help.
Finally, i hear you on commitments. They are important. But times have changed. These kids finally have the freedom they deserve to move freely. And we need to be realistic about it. We can't replace 4 and 5 stars with walk ons. We ain't too deep anymore. We're a drying up lake of talent and Dabo isn't moving to replenish it.

Sorry REAL Clemson fans get on their knees for Dabo. Drink his protein shakes
I mean I’m just asking questions. What’s wrong with that right? That’s what Tucker Carlson tells me to do.

Schools communicate openly when they have significant movements in staff? You might want to tell that to every other school in America. Pretty sure most ADs try to keep it as secret as possible who they're interviewing for jobs. I seen to remember weeks of speculating and rumors about every open coaching job this season. Several of the hires seemed to come out of nowhere and fans were completely surprised. Again whiny fans such as yourself aren't privy to the inner workings of schools athletic departments. When hires are approved press releases are made so the fans will know who was chosen.

Yep, Dabo was slow this year. Now let’s see, 9, soon to be 10 wins with 17 injured scholarship players. I’ll take Dabo’s over your opinion. I can’t believe anyone would make such illogical comments.

It would be nice if Tnet could come up with an original article once in a while. They do have the ability of stretching one interview into numerous articles down to an art form though. I get it though. It’s about clicks with as little effort as possible. ??

I am cautiously optimistic. It’s fair to trust Dabo but still question some of the things he does. I’ve got to think these guys know what they’re doing and will do a good job but the proof will come on the field and the recruiting trail. Nobody should question Dabos motives for why he does what he does but Dabo is a high class guy trying to do things in the high class way in what has become, due to portal, NIL, the redefining of commitment and just plain out cheating in some cases, a not so high class playing field. Sometimes you can’t bring a knife to a gun fight even if you don’t like guns.
