Looking at the Scholarship Breakdown

This is what I've got. I'm certainly no expert in this so please correct anything inaccurate.
Eligibility Expired: Paul Tyson Ruke Orhorhoro Tyler Davis Xavier Thomas Justin Mascoll Jalyn Phillips Sheridan Jones Aiden Swanson Will Putnam Mitchell Mayes RJ Mickens
Total 11
85-11 = 74
Eligible For Covid Year/medical (any player on roster during the 2020 season gets 6 years to compete in 4 seasons (not counting redshirt year?)): Brannon Spector Walker Parks Tyler Venables
Eligible for Draft but could return: Hunter Helms Will Shipley Phil Mafah Dominique Thomas Troy Stellato Brannon Spector Beaux Collins Jake Briningstool Sage Ennis Ryan Linthicum Dietrick Pennington Walker Parks Triston Leigh Bryn Tucker Marcus Tate John Williams Tre Williams DeMonte Capehart Payton Page Cade Denhoff Barrett Carter Jeremiah Trotter Jr. Nate Wiggins Andrew Mukuba Tyler Venables Holden Caspersen
HS Commits: Sammy Brown Bryant Wesco TJ Moore Christian Bentancur Darien Mayo Ricardo Jones Corian Gipson Tavoy Feagin Noah Dixon Adam Kissayi David Eziomume Hevin Brown-Shuler Champ Thompson Ashton Hampton Ronan O'Connell Drew Woodaz Nolan Hauser
Total 17
If all eligible players were to return: (85-11) = 74 + 17 = 91
Players likely not to return (there will certainly be others): Carter Trotter Wiggins Mukuba
91-4 = 87
How many players portal out? Hard to say at this point. We'd have to guess 10-15 if the last few years' trend continues. Let's just go with the lower end at 10.
87-10 = 77
Assuming others leave for the draft we may be looking at 8-10 scholarships short in December/January. How many more do we take in the 2024 class and do we finally hit the portal hard?
I'll try to keep this updated as players announce intentions.

Is that including the guys who left football all together? I don't seem to recall that many entering the portal tbh. 23 players in 2 years is alot.

OK I see where you got your info. Man did not seem like that many, that's a chunk of depth out the door.

I’m not saying we will be short of 85 when all is said and done. Of course not. In the past we have given scholarships to walkons. We always hit the number, the question is, how are we going to hit that number this time?

At this juncture, I would count these players as returning:
Will Shipley Phil Mafah Dominique Thomas Troy Stellato Brannon Spector Beaux Collins Jake Briningstool Sage Ennis Ryan Linthicum Will Putnam Dietrick Pennington Walker Parks Triston Leigh Bryn Tucker Marcus Tate John Williams Mitchell Mayes Tre Williams DeMonte Capehart Payton Page Cade Denhoff RJ Mickens Tyler Venables Holden Caspersen
These are the only ones that I see as possibly leaving:
Hunter Helms - Transfer out to get some playing time Barrett Carter - NFL DRAFT Jeremiah Trotter Jr. - NFL DRAFT Nate Wiggins - NFL DRAFT Andrew Mukuba - NFL DRAFT

I think one of, if not both, Shipley and Mafah portal out. I could see Shipley bolting because he doesn’t seem to mesh well with CJ and would like a shot behind a better offensive line for his last year.
If Shipley stays I think Phil is definitely gone. But I could see both rolling out for the same reason above.
I think Randall possibly hits the road. I could see Spector going to a smaller school if he uses his Covid year.
Thomas may hit the portal if one of Phil and Shipley stay or both along with younger backs behind him.
I agree with you on helms. And then there’s likely a handful of depth players that seek better options.

together on the field. I hope he balls out these last 4 games and becomes everything we thought he could be. The size and skill is there. Reminds me of x Leggett for #####. Didn't do much until this year and it finally came together. Hopefully randall can do the same

Putnam is done.
He played in 11 games his fresheman year and burnt his RS. This is his 5th year. Covid year essentially gave him his redshirt back

If the Clemson profile page is accurate then Mayes and Mickens are also out of eligibility.
I’ve edited accordingly.

According to his stats on his Clemsontigers.com profile he’s played 10 (2020), 13 (2021), 13 (2022) and 7 games this year. That would make him ineligible for a Covid year.
