in the last 5 years Dabo has:
-had 3 different OCs
-had 3 different DCs
-had fallback HS recruits to backfill grads/transfers
-had failed X position players moved to a y position to backfill positional talent shortcomings
-had multiple position coach changes
ALL OF THAT and it's gotten progressively WORSE YEAR OVER YEAR........our 4year Moving average win% has slipped each year since 2018.
THE ONE THING DABO has NOT done is hit the portal hard and to supplement/replace roster talent that is quite frankly "not measuring up". The ONE TIME he "dabbled" in it was THIS YEAR..........and one could argue that 2 of the 3 transfers have been the BRIGHTEST SPOTS on our team.
It's another talent acquisition tool that Dabo has refused to use in an impactful way to improve the program.
He's essentially refusing to use a calculator for the SAT when everyone else is using one........it's stupid, why not utilize it????

Ya cool. We take a few portal guys that are contributing...and we get worse this year? I mean, that's as logical of an argument as any of this.
See FSU. See UNC. See West Virginia. Arizona. Va Tech. UCF. Purdue. Colorado. Arkansas. Cal. Oklahoma State. Mississipi State. South Carolina.
All of these teams took transfers that brought 10k+ in snaps at previous schools. In the case of WVU, over 30,000 snaps of experience was brought in.
Look, I'm not suggesting that we shouldn't dig a bit more into the portal. Nor am I suggesting the data above is worth using to make absolute conclusions that the portal doesn't work.
This whole portal-drum-banging is tired and shallow. Sadly it's a narrative that is just on repeat over and over and over and over again by people because they read it over and over and over and over again on the internet and have been brainwashed into thinking it's 100% true.
The calculator on the SAT analogy is poor. Lazy, and poor. Taking transfers does NOT have a modicum of guarantee towards success. You know this though, don't you?
And yes, our record hasn't been 15-0 like it was in 2018. We all understand it's not reasonable to think we'd keep up that type of record year after year. C'mon man, how long you been a Clemson fan? I'm thinking longer than 10 years but who knows.

there are a myriad of issues that are plaguing this program and it's standing in today's era of CFB.
What I'm saying is the Portal is a tool that's available to EVERYONE and those who don't use it to it's fullest potential to benefit the program are fools.
and you can pick your favorite analogy......I don't care, but the calculator analogy works b/c what it spits out is dependent on what you put in. I can tell you to give me the answer to 2+2, but if you mistype in the calculator 3+2 it's not giving the right answer. Dabo needs to utilize the tool correctly for us to gain the benefit........I'm not sure he knows how..........nor am I sure he will.....that's tbd.
Lastly, I'm not saying keep up with a 15-0 pace.......far from it, but I'm asking to be more elite than.

I don't care that playing in the ACC afforded us a back-in spot to a 12-team playoff. We were 0-3 last year vs OOC P4 opponents...........same in 2022. If it wasn't for the ACC we'd be MUCH worse off record wise and all the "Dabo's still winning games" people would have no defense to fall back on.
Bottomline.......and it seems you're the type that can't take this type of honest reality, but.............We are NOT "elite" anymore and have not been for 5 years.

Who GAF what who's record is against who or what conference or whatever. You can't deny we were in a semifinal THE LAST TIME A SEMIFINAL WAS PLAYED. That, my friend, is reality. Not all this projection about what we would have been if we were in some other conference.

And I already apologized for my haste in not recalling whatever number was left in the playoffs. Fact is, we were in.
The rules for who the top 12 are were set, and we were in there. Per the rules. You I suppose have some other criteria for rankings, and that's ok I guess.
We found out QUICK we didn't belong? Was that when we were down 7 with under 12 minutes to play AT #4 Texas? That's not belonging? Or let me guess....Texas was no good and shouldn't have been there either? You know, the same game where Texas gave up more total yards, more yards per play, and more passing yards than they had all year...against the mighty SEC competition.
So hey, if the top 12 don't actually go to the 12 team playoff feel free to find a cloud to shout at over it.
The narrative that our entire football program has been in the shidder for 5 years is stupid and it comes from salty what-have-you-done-for-me-lately-"fans".
Bad year this year. Yes. Downward spiral for 5 years? Nah. Not on the whole. We've moved on from OCs and DCs that went to get HC jobs. We've moved on from generational talent at QB. None of that means we are now on par with Jacksonville State.

It's not "TOP 12"..........the rules are if a p4 team wins their conference champ game they're in...........regardless of whether they are undefeated or 4-5 losses.
Texas punched us in the mouth early then kept us at arms length.........we didn't have a chance from the jump.
We lost to UGA, South Carolina, & Texas which were ALL OOC games........our record vs "that ilk" has been ATROCIOUS over 5 years. So yes our downward spiral has been FIVE YEARS and we're lower now than we have been in those 5 years.

It's still not going to fix everything for next year. Even if he does get lucky and gets mostly good players out of the portal, you'll still be looking at a nine and three or eight and four type year next year.

Actually what WE DO know is that our almost completely ignoring the portal coupled with our NIL philosophy on HS recruiting has killed the elite position our program was in. And of course just using the portal doesn't equate to success. It's like anything else. You have to do it wisely.

Other team we play will be improving or staying the same by adding older more experienced players to their roster while we continue to add project or lower than usually high school recruits to ours while most of our “star” players leave this year. Next year may be the worst year since a Tommy West lead year record wise I think. We need to prepare ourselves for that.

I’m pretty sure next year will be a disaster regardless of what’s done this offseason.
If CDS does the right thing and cleans out the Nepo coaches you’ll have a year or so for the new, hopefully qualified and competent asst coaches to get us back in track and the following year will likely be much better.
If CDS continues the ostrich strategy we’re on now I’d expect more middling years like this one until CDS changes or is gone
The biggest issue next year, regardless of coaching, is at QB and if we land a true QB1 from the portal

In spite of the desire for the portal, Clemson had the most returning players of just about any team. Clemson spent million of dollars (9th most in college football) to retain players to ensure we had experience. We can go on blaming the portal and NIL, but neither explains why we suck this bad right now at this moment. It might explain not being in the top 10, but it does not explain not being ranked at all.

We will be way less experienced next year because of what you said, those players will be gone that were supposed to be stars and the ones behind them are not the recruits they were or in years past mostly. All the teams we play will be reloading with more experience and much older players than we will have. There has to be a bunch of changes with coaches (Conn, the whole Offensive staff outside of Luke) that will also cause possible some growing pains as well . Not sure if Dabo is around after next year.

Just lower your expectations and it won’t be so bad. I assumed we would struggle for bowl eligibility during the 1st half of the Troy game. This season hasn’t been so bad for me. It’s what I expected early on.
This will be true for next year. I don’t even get mad at games. I just laugh at the product on the field.
