Keep in Mind Clemson-Furman History

Sep 15, 2022, 12:39 PM

About the Furman game, the history with our neighbor Furman is hard for outsiders to understand. Those Furman boys have always played us harder than outsiders can understand. Yeah, I know 1936 was a while ago, but there were some good games over the years when it was a yearly event.

Coach Howard signed my Block C paddle. I feel ancient!

Back in my student-athlete days...

Sep 15, 2022, 1:04 PM

even though he retired ten years earlier, Coach Howard still had an office in Jervey. He would occasionally make his way down to the weight room and, if you happened to be there, you got to really experience his unique character and brand of humor. Some of his more interesting stories were about his playing days at Alabama for Coach Wallace Wade. He would say, back in my day, when you put your helmet on the ground, it would fold-up like a lawn chair.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

I liked the way he said Furman. He left the R out. It was Fuman.
