Please explain exactly how waiving sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline "set Ukraine's fate".

Handing Russia total control of Europes energy supply

If you can see how that set Ukraine’s fate, you are just dense

How could Europe present a credible threat to Russia in support of Ukraine?

How could Ukraine ever achieve NATO membership?

It’s such a mind boggling blunder and total display of weakness. It’s not all on Biden either. German leadership under Merkel should go down in history as the absolute worst and most strategically incompetent displays in modern history.

Nord Stream 2 has yet to deliver any gas. It has been inactive since the day it was completed. Both Nord Stream 1 and 2 have been inactive or inoperable since September 2022.

All after the war and after the gave Russia all the leverage

And for the record, it was Russia that cut off gas supplies to Europe. You act as if Europe in some noble cause decided to abstain from Russian gas on their own accord. Was that your understanding?

Here is the complete picture for your education:

https://www.brookings.edu/articles/europes-messy-russian-gas-divorce/

How hard did Germany press Putin before the invasion? is the question you should be asking

Why didn’t they push harder? You should ask

Why did Biden cave and hand the last bit of leverage to Russia? You might ask…

Or you could satisfy your self by rationalizing this cluster by simply saying “well Europe imports gas from the US and has Nuclear power plants”

No thought given to the fact that all the gas from the US comes on LNG boats and greatly higher expense and that 18 of Europe’s nuclear reactors or Russian and that Russia was their largest supplier of nuclear fuel…

It's also absurd to suggest that Russian gas somehow makes up all of Europe's energy supply. France, for example, is 65% nuclear and only 7% gas. According to this site, natural gas accounted for only 25% of Europe's energy supply in 2022.

https://www.iea.org/regions/europe/energy-mix

Germany was too dependent on Russian gas, though.

You may read this to educate yourself further on the matter

You seem to be under the impression that Europe has a magical supply of nuclear fuel

He made the point that 65% of France’s energy is nuclear

I’m responding to that

You are confusing the availability of gas vs the cost of gas.

The ‘8nevitability’ of Nordstream gas (cheapest mode by which gas was to reach Germany) led to non-Nordstream suppliers to reduce their prices of gas to be sold to Germany. These other gas suppliers were not just going to walk away en masse from the (very big) German market.

When Nordstream was blown up, the prospects of a return of low cost gas via that supply source disappeared. Germany then had to quickly make new contracts with their non-Nordstream suppliers for additional gas supplies. Germany got enough ‘new sourced’ gas to function, but that ‘new sourced’ gas was much more expensive. It was the high cost of the ‘non-Nordstream’ gas that torpedoed their 3conomy.

xxxxxxx

Biden Handlers Admin didn’t think through the geopolitical risks of, in effect, making Germany dependent on Russian gas. Biden Handlers Admin was blinded by the combination of environmental-nut constituents + green energy scammers (crony capitalist partners of the Democrats) … short term political blindness. Thus, the door was left wide open for Putin to adopt an acquisitive foreign policy re Ukraine relationship.

It was this predilection for policies driven by short term political considerations that led to the categorical failure of the Biden Handlers Administration’s foreign policies.
