Y'all ever dealt with Chiggers?

Pretty certain I'm being eaten alive by chiggers.
I heard to take a hot shower, soap and scrub. Y'all got any other suggestions.

Hydrocortisone cream 1% to the bites and Claritin may help.
They are bad news.

Chiggers, harvest mites, red bugs... yes I've learned the hard way. Stay on the trails. When I was in my 20's I thought I would be clever and hike a big patch of woods by completely going off the trails and making my own way. I was wearing shorts and tube socks. 3 hours later i pulled the socks off and found hundreds of tiny tiny mites crawling all over my shins and ankles and the next 2 weeks were the itchiest days of my life.
Hot water is the best thing. Anything other than itching. Be warned, you will wake up in the middle of the night and feel so itchy you'll want to take a cheese grater to your legs. Don't itch! Jump in a hot shower.
Godspeed

Cannot reiterate enough your advice to resist scratching. I have dealt with them before and the more you scratch, the worse they itch. It can be 3 weeks post any redness, swelling or itchy feeling,……..and if you scratch that spot one time the infected site will return with a vengeance. Just leave it alone !!!
But you can’t call them chiggers anymore. The correct term is chegro. ">

Nail polish does work. A bit of advice though...use clear. Nothing like going to the ER and your thigh and "package area" is dotted with pink and red nail polish...at least it wasn't blue or yellow!

As a kid, we always put finger nail polish on the top of them… probably doesn’t work but worth a google.
We also poured gasoline over yellow jackets nests… worked like a charm.

And this is key, same for poison oak or ivy.. Get in the shower, and turn the water up in the affected area as hot as you can stand it. It’ll feel bad at first, then feel really amazing actually, then keep that hot water cranking.. You’ll get hours of relief from 5-10mins of hot hot water.

No not the same as poison ivy. That is a thick grease on your skin. Take some Dawn in the shower and scrub the grease off. If you do that quickly, you won’t itch.

Basically they suck! Get shower, then some menthol alcohol rub, then cortisone, then 2 shots of bourbon - not on the bites. You will feel better.

Take Vicks Vapor Rub and add some salt. Mix well and apply to bites. Will be some better in the morning then do this another 2 nights.
Next time in the woods and tall grass spray down with bug spray.
Good Luck

Hot tub/jacuzzi or hot shower or bath for as long as you can and then put Silvadene Cream and Hydrocortisone cream on it.
Calahist lotion with cotton swab afterwards to dry the itch up.

We always used to put Sevin Dust in an old sock, then pat down your boots and lower legs before hunting or tromping the woods. It always worked for chiggers and ticks. I should know becausevI was a Chig Magnet back in the day!

Used to get them in early deer hunting season. Anywhere your clothes are tight, they move in. The fingernail polish worked for me, but I never used pink. Stuck with clear, tried to stay manly.

Every remedy mentioned here works ………. for about 3 hours and then you are back where you started. It takes about 2 weeks for them to clear up. I have never been to the doctor for them but suppose cortisone shots will help some.

Dealt with chigger bites for years. Every deer hunting season. Had to finally quit deer hunting until after the first frost. The only thing that got me cleared up was to go to doctor and get prednisone prescription.
I recently got ate up with them in Feb. Was surprised they were active in Feb. Did not get prednisone. Doctor prescribed Triamcinolone Acetonide cream, 1%. You can also get the ointment, but I prefer the cream as it does not stain clothes. Took a full three weeks of applying the cream 3 to 4 times daily. It did help itching. I also took zyrtec 10mg tab once daily. Can't take more than 1 tab daily. I am very allergic to insect bites, so I Don't heal quickly.
Hate them #### chiggers.

DON’t SCRATCH! Just makes it last longer.
Best advice is use a lot of 30-40% DEET spray when going into the areas they inhabit in the summer. It’s too late for this time but it will keep it from happening again. I am in the woods and fields a lot and this stuff works.

Chiggers, sand fleas, no-see-ums , red bugs .... Same thing..they are crazy itchy little S.O.B's.... The parasite digs under the skin and dies. It doesn't "spread", the damage is already done. The redness and puffy skin around the burrow site is an inflammatory response. Topical steroids for limited number of bites, oral steroids can be used if extensive but probably not necessary as this will run its course regardless.
I am a physician, if that matters. I deal with this all the time.

My grandmother used Yeager’s Liniment for joint pain and to repel ticks and chiggers (jiggers) while blackberry picking. It’s the camphor that the little buggers can’t tolerate. Rub it on them and they will pull out and leave. Smells to high heaven. I used it liberally during my SCHD surveying days.
