With the watering down of the SEC over recent years,

Jul 27, 2022, 11:07 AM

I’d be really surprised if Clemson, FSU, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Florida, aren’t in talks to become a super conference. Not in the sense of being large conference but being the most relevant. We would probably have to add a few more to even out the numbers, but I would almost guarantee the conversation is taking place.

The SEC might have a few down teams, but sorry the ACC has lost more than the SEC just gained with Oklahoma. In fact FSU would probably not be in the mix.

Don't forget UGA. After all they are the current CFP National Champs.

Georgia is largely irrelevant. One fluke does not get them invited to

Jul 27, 2022, 3:30 PM

Yea because FSU has been so relevant lately

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Recent? The SEC has been thoroughly watering itself down since 1991.

Look up the records of the last few and you will how dumb your idea is. There is nothing watered down about the SEC.

I realize logic isn’t your friend so I’ll give you a pass on this one.***

The Watering down of the SEC? The SEC, right now, is the toughest it's ever been. With the exception of Vanderbilt, you could put any other SEC team in another conference, and they would either go undefeated or come away with maybe one or two losses at the most. They are all really good teams, again, with the exception of Vanderbilt. It also has a grouping of the best coaches in one conference that I think I have ever seen.

So, I completely disagree that the SEC is watered down.

So you're saying that South Carolina, Missouri, and Tennessee would go unbeaten in any other conference? You say that even with South Carolina losing 31-0 to Clemson last year, Tennessee losing to Pitt and Purdue, and Missouri losing to BC and Army?

That's not to mention Florida losing to UCF, Mississippi State losing to Memphis and Texas Tech, LSU losing to UCLA and Kansas State, and Auburn losing to Penn State and Houston.

I agree the SEC is the best overall conference and they'll become even deeper with Oklahoma and Texas, but comments like saying every team would go unbeaten in other conferences is just plain stupid.

Tennessee is expected to be scary good this year. This is only Heupel's second year, so that remains to be seen, but Tennessee was very competitive last year, and that is with a brand new coach, and losing a ton of recruits. So, if Tennessee plays as expected, yes, I think they would do very good in another conference.

South Carolina? I have no idea. They do have Spencer Rattler though. He is without a doubt one of the top quarterbacks in college football. I know that there is excitement in South Carolina right now. They seem to think Beamer is the guy. But, I will give you that one. I have no idea how good they will be.

I know that Ole Miss lost to Baylor (which by the way, Baylor is a really good team right now) but Ole Miss did lose Matt Corral during the game. That made a huge difference.

Anyway, I do stick by my statement. I think the SEC is the strongest it's ever been right now. I hope Clemson is able to join at some point. They have earned the right to be in the top football conference in my opinion.

SEC is a great conference in football. They are top dogs until they are knocked off. The SEC is top heavy though. This year they were 6-8 in bowl games with losses to Army, Purdue, Kansas St, Houston, and Texas Tech, among others. Not exactly murderer’s row.

Every conference is top heavy. The difference is the SEC routinely has 3-4 teams in contention for a playoff spot. All the others have one if that.

Since 2015, not including covid year, the sec has had 1 year with 3 or more teams finish the season with 2 or fewer losses. The B1G has 4 such years.

There have been 10 teams from the SEC to make the CFP since it's inception. There have only been 6 from the BIG. The SEC is 15-4 in the CFP, and 2 of those losses were to another SEC team. The BIG is 3-5 with multiple big blowout losses.

As I said top dog. The B1G has shat the bed a few times, i cant disagree with that. The sec is top heavy in that it is Alabama and then another good team sometimes… Alabama has 7 appearances, Lsu one, Georgia two.

it all depends on the coach. Before Saban came to Alabama they weren't very good for a while. Same with Clemson before Dabo. FSU now that Bowden/Jimbo left. It just shows how programs can change based on how coaches come and go.
