With a 28 point lead Thurs we "took a knee" - Oregon chose

Oct 27, 2012, 9:53 PM

to score another 42 points today --- And the sportsworld is singing their praises as a true powerhouse --- no mention of poor sportsmanship --- I believe we are missing subtle opportunities to counter the EZPN negative press about us.

Look at it from Oregon's perspective for a moment:

Thursday night game at Arizona State, they were up 43-7 at half, took their foot off the gas and dropped again in the B(C)S rankings.

They tried to play the role of good sports and were penalized. They decided to RUTS because of the system in place.

All they do us win & all that happens is they drop in the polls.

For that reason alone, Oregon will not show mercy to any team they face. Can't say I blame them, to be honest.

Computers dont account for margin of victory either. Win is win and loss is loss. The points spreads come from the human element of the poll; not the computers.

Why do the computers have alabama 1st?

Oct 27, 2012, 10:08 PM

As a matter of fact...

Oct 27, 2012, 10:20 PM [ in reply to Evidently the computers don't account for good sportsmanship*** ]

Back in the early days of computers when I was in college in 1988 with nothing else better to do than mess around, I recall writing a computer program to rank teams and determine point spreads that took both strength of schedule and sportsmanship into account (no additional credit given for wins more than 21 points). Curiously enough, I wound up with a team ranked in my top 10 that wasn't ranked at all in the AP poll. That team finished 10-2 that year and was quarterbacked by a little known sophomore by the name of Brett Favre at Southern Mississippi. The rest is history.

It's in your teams best interest to run the score up***

14-14. Oregon could have scored over a hundred. I think they did take a knee.

Margin of victory is not accounted for in the polls

Oct 27, 2012, 10:03 PM

I think what's hurting Oregon is the same thing that's hurting us...strength of schedule.

In the nineties FSU beat ACC teams all of the time by 50 plus points, and they were respected despite being in a bad conference. Things have changed over the past decade or so, but teams like Oregon look impressive when they put up 70 points.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We "took a knee" at the half. Oregon did the same.***

yeah if you want to build up your strength of schedule you have to play teams like : Vandy,ECU,UAB,mizz, kentucky, etc.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oregon pulled starters halfway through the 2nd quarter...

Oct 27, 2012, 11:15 PM

today and led 56-0 at the half.

So what in the hell are you talking about exactly?
