Regular HS recruiting that will be an important trait of coaches going forward, perhaps more so as time goes?

The portal is filled with players who...

where dissatisfied with their prior teams most likely due to a lack of playing time.
Sometimes these kids just need a fresh new start, and while I get that, I also think that with a few limited exceptions, if these kids couldn't crack the two-deep at their prior schools, it's unlikely they would crack the two deep at Clemson.
I also think the few premier players who end-up in the portal have already made decisions about their transfer destination well before their name appears in the portal.

In basketball, players are using it to move up just as much as they are using it to move down.
Sometimes it's for a guy with one year left, but some of them had a good freshman and sophomore year in a smaller conference and want to play in a better conference.

The portal is already just as important as HS recruiting and every coach will have to come to terms with that including Dabo. The portal is College Football's free agency now. Any college coach who views the portal as if it's just something they'll just dip into in emergency situations will get left behind within the next 4-8 years. It would be like an NFL coach saying they will only consider free agents if they have an injury. Meanwhile the competition is bolstering their roster at every opportunity.

Bama got To'o To'o from Tennessee and he was a freshman

All SEC player who I guess just wanted to be on a better team. So that guy was a can't miss.
The other player Bama got was a highly sought after WR at Ohio St who was 2nd string behind Olave and Wilson - 2 first round WRs.
So if you can find these 5 star guys who just happen to be back ups to 1st round NFL talent, or 5 star guys who are tired at playing at a program like Tennessee, South Carolina, NC St, UNC, etc. Then I think that's the sweet spot.
You wonder if a guy like Travis Shaw, the massive 5 star DT stud who committed to UNC will have 2nd thoughts and transfer to Clemson. He really liked Clemson and we really liked him.

With all the coaching changes at Florida, LSU and VT and others there will likely be quality players wanting to make a change if the new staff brings a new style.
