+1 Too much negativity on here. Same with Twitter. That has GOT to be having a negative effect on recruits. People need to be happy and thankful for the great years we've had. I know that I'm so thankful...

I agree 100%. Once in the system, everyone will either work their tail off, sit, or go elsewhere. Swinney placing his kids on the roster instead of someone with more talent is a disservice to the program. Nepotism has no place in a program as rich as Clemson football. You want to play your kids, go to Pop Warner.

11 straight 10-win seasons. 7 ACC Championships 6 consecutive CFP births 2 national championships
Not sure who you are a fan of (though I do detect the smell of chicken shyatt) but unless you’re a Bama fan your team has not done it better than Coach William Christopher Swinney has for the Clemson Tigers.
So, as a genuine and sane Clemson fan, I’m willing to let Coach Swinney manage our roster as he sees fit. I’ll sit back and watch the trophies keep rolling it.

I do agree Dabo has earned the right to God forbid, not win a game for 5 seasons and not be dismissed; also he's at a minimum, quadrupled Danny's levels of success. Still there were and are obvious flaws in a variety of roster management practices employed under CDS.

And how has this "nepotism" hurt our program... since we've been one of the two best programs in the CFP era and all?

Have you ever heard of a scout team? These are players who rarely play except in extenuating circumstances like blowouts, dozens of injuries, COVID, or nuclear war. They are valuable to the team. Most are walk-ons. Some occasionallly get a scholarship if they can snap a ball at high speed, hold a ball for a field goal without dropping it or getting their hands kicked, catch a punt, or have a genome similar to Hunter Renfrow. If they happen to be related to a coach, I’m OK with that.

Some folks on here seem to forget

That Ladson, Ngata, Williams, Spector, and Ross have missed significant time this season (or missed the season altogether, or are done). That's a pretty good 5.
The Wills have moved into 2 deep, not because of nepotism, but because of attrition. Had most/all of those guys been healthy, we probably have a different season, and the no-namers would've only seen the field in mop-up roles, as in years past.
Give the "nepotism" charge a rest already. Will Swinney scored a pretty important touchdown last week. Is he uber-talented? His Dad would say "no". Has he contributed over his time at Clemson? Honest, objective people would say, "Absolutely."
Dabo would be the first one to tell you that he'd rather have Justyn, Frank, Joseph, Brannon and E.J. He's playing with the hand he's been dealt.
Stop b****ing, or go back to FGF.

I think it's reasonable to think that at least some of the 4-5 stars we've signed over the last three years would have stayed healthy. Those front line guys were wanted by everyone. Alabama would've loved to have had E.J. Williams.
Nobody expected for all those guys to get/stay hurt. No team in the country has 5-stars at number 8 or 9 in the WR room. Maybe Alabama, but nobody is Alabama. I think people are blinded to factors beyond Dabo's control because they're just mad/disappointed.
I'm deeply disappointed in this season too. I thought we could contend for another National Championship. Are there things within Dabo's control that he CAN change? Of course. And I have every reason to believe that he will in the off-season.
People want to over-simplify what is a complex problem. Time will tell if Dabo can pull out of this rocky year. My money is on him. He's earned it.

Good point. To further your point, let's say we had 1-2 more 4 or 5 star receivers on the roster. What are the odds none of those guys would've hit the transfer portal due to their position on the depth chart before the season even started?

Not that I care. I’ll take a couple of roster spots for coaches kids for this level of success. But then again, I’m not a whiny little child who thinks the world owes me something.

... YES, it’s unreasonable to think that more than 5-7 blue chip receivers are going to sign with Clemson knowing that 3-4 will sit on the bench.
But, most importantly, Will Swinney in no way has taken a scholarship from any more talented WR ...
Will has a scholarship as a HOLDER for extra points and field goals.
The fact he plays wide receiver is totally incidental and only became an issue because so many of our more talented guys got hurt.

That crappy hand you are referring to would not be as much of an issue if solid roster spots were not taken by an excessive amount of walk-ons.. If you would like Clemson to continue to be a top program in the nation, this has to stop. Yeah, Hunter Renfrow was surely a homerun as a walk-on.. That's not always the case however, replicating that success with another walk-on is very unlikely.
That 'important' touchdown you were referring to was a trick play against one of the worst teams in the FBS.

I'm not going to give you a full walk-on report to change your perception on the issue. All you need to know is that a program who aspires to contend for national championships on a yearly basis has two walk-on WR's in a 2-deep rotation. One of which is the coach's son.

Well, you say we have an excessive amount of roster spots being taken up by walk-ons. I wouldn't think it would be too hard to name off a bunch of them if we truly have that many.
I think you'd have to look at the roster of several teams and determine what they'd be left with at receiver if they had 4-5 receivers unavailable due to injuries before you can argue that point.

Yeah, injuries suck. But I expect a staff that is paid as much as ours and makes claims of "best is the standard" to anticipate scenarios like this year. There were (and lkely are) 2 dozen three stars WR's with legit physical characteristics and abilites that FAR outstrip those of our current walk-ons. Yet here we are, putting a 5'8" WR in the 2-deep. Inexcusable actually.

Teams don't have room to sign backup 3-star guys at every position, planning on injuries or other attrition. Walk-ons get scholarships after ones unexpectedly come open. It's not like we hold scholarships for walk-ons and skip over 3-star guys just for kicks and giggles. There are walk-on scholarship guys everywhere under similar circumstances.
