Because big ten decision to cancel season less than a week after announcing the schedule? I think they return to the big 12.

The big 10 has a far more lucrative tv contract, and Nebraska will not walk away from that.

Ain't no way. Nebraska is swimming in revenue they could never dream of in the Big 12.
A major reason they left was because they were sick and tired of UT owning the Big 12. That has not changed at all.

*Yes* - or at least they could.
Nebraska definitely left for the money. And other than the first year or so, they struggled to finish in the top 1/2 of the B10 West/Legends. Money is nice but winning is more important to them.
However, something will need to change and that starts with Texas. As long as the current B12 model is in effect, then no. BUT I think that might change... if that means to save the B12 as we currently know it.
Texas needs the B12, as the SEC (A&M) nor the P12 would give them the same deal. So they will not jump. However, other schools *could* if there is a push to go to 16 team conferences. However the B12 model will forever and continue to weaken the conference and in an expansion side, you would see the B12 decline to the Mountain West/AAC. Think about it, why else would they want WVU to play in their sandbox?
But lets look at the rest of the B12. Knowing that Texas can't/wont jump - could the rest corner Texas. I say yes. And I say yes in the name of expansion. Would Texas consider giving up their cut? Yes, if that mean that OU or others would jump to another conference leaving Texas with the less 1/2 of the old B12. I don't think Texas want their network for feature Houston, SMU, and Tulsa. Because I could definitely see OU, OSU or Kansas jumping conferences if the SEC or B10 decide that 16 is the way to go.
Nebraska cares more about winning than it does about money. With their B10 alignment, they are Iowa west. They cut their recruiting territory in Tex/Ok off completely. You see that in their rankings as well as their record. If Nebraska sees their path to winning again easier in the B12 and their are not a second class money makers, then they will jump immediately.

Nobody is jumping anywhere. OU can't leave without taking Oklahoma State and no P5 conference will take Oklahoma State. UT can't leave without taking Baylor and Tech and no P5 would take that deal either.
The Little 12 is stuck as it is. UT and OU couldn't leave if they wanted.
Nebraska, Mizzou and A&M all left for the same reason (utter disgust with UT) and none have regrets.

Nebraska and B10 are definitely not on great terms. If Frost does not deliver, I think Nebraska will start getting unease and beating up on Kansas will look appealing.
UT can do what it wants... which is the problem. They don't have to take anyone with them. Baylor is private and TT is the smallest of "partners" here. They are the ECU of Texas. Texas wanting to keep their network and be the big fish will keep the out of the SEC. Who knows, they might change but I think they don't want the competition.
IF the SEC was to expand to 16, I think they will target OU (thus also and OSU). With Mizzou, they already have the Kansas City market, so going after Kansas would only be tossing Kentucky a bone and I don't think Kentucky wants basketball competition. Plus, bumping Alabama/Auburn to the East will re-balance the divisions.
Going 16? I think the ACC will be there as soon as ND joins. Don't know the +1 but I see it coming. I don't think FSU will jump to the SEC - particularly since they are struggling now. They no their path to the Natty is easier in the ACC.
So, the B12 will have a choice, expand maybe with an uneasy Nebraska trying to get Texas's recruitng bed back. Otherwise, the SEC and B10 (going after Kansas, KSU, or ISU) would make the B12 the BighEast of 2000.
Not saying that it WILL happen, but I see the path in which it could.
And yes Nebraska has regrets - finishing 5/6th behind Illinois was not in their vision where they were supposed to dominate the B10 west.

Obviously you do not live in Texas. When it comes to abandoning the Little 12, UT cannot just do what it wants. Tech and Baylor have enough alumni (and other supporters) in the legislature to veto anything UT wants to do if they aren't also invited. That's just the way things work down here. There are a boatload of people that don't like UT.
The SEC doesn't want OSU or KU under any circumstances. If the Little 12 collapses, KU is cooked and OSU's only hope is to become a package deal with OU. Only the AAC would accept them.
The Little 12 went through all of this a few years ago. UT would have left for the B1G if they could have but the door was slammed by politicians.

Well said.
$$$$ says they have to stay in the B1G, so they probably will.
But what if that money sentences them to college football mediocrity because they can no longer recruit to their south? Nebraska no longer has a natural recruiting territory. I assume they consider themselves a national program and can recruit from anywhere, but there are about 20 schools in line ahead of them for the “national” recruits.
If it doesn’t work with the splashy hire of Frost as HC, can it ever work for them in the B1G?

I think national prominence in CFB is a thing of the past for Nebraska no matter the conference. At least in the B1G, they will have a huge revenue stream that ensures the long term viability of their various programs. Not only that, they can continue building and upgrading top notch facilities to attract the best possible athletes who are interested in them.
Being Iowa in football is probably NU's best case. Or maybe even Wisconsin. Neither team wins the conference regularly but their athletic programs are top notch and something to be proud of.
IMO, native son Scott Frost is NU's last hope for a return to football glory. If/whenever they let him go, it's all downhill.
