I heard tell, he was the best quarterback out of the state of Georgia a couple of years ago. ??

If we can do that with our weaker DL than last year. It will be interesting. Ohio State has given up a lot of sacks. I bet Simmons gets 2 in the game.

Who is better? Tua or Fields? Regardless we have their number.

I hope so, but he hasn't balled out yet this year for whatever reason. He has 21 tackles (only 8 solo tackles) and 2 sacks. He's tied for 15th on the team in total tackles, is 18th in solo tackles, and is in a 5 way tie for 7th in sacks. He was significantly better last year as a backup.

While all those stats are probably correct, I see XT as someone that rushes the QB on 3rd and long, but mainly sets the edge. IMO he seems to do a solid job of defending his turf. Fields just has to hope that XT does not do a "Dungey" on him.

Keep in mind that we don't have that front 4 like we had last year against Bama.

Right, so the key will be disguising coverage since Fields weakness is reading defenses and bringing blitzes from all parts of the field to help the Dline.

Fields proclaimed that the game isn't too big for him . Seeing as how it's his first CFBP game I assume the young man is just being confident ahead of it .

There'll be a lot more difficulty in this game than ANY he has faced in college . We'll see how he handles wearing Simmons and XT most of the game .

This has been on my mind as of late. Last season, we all heard and read, multiple times I might add, how Trevor Lawrence was due for the "freshman moment" heading into the CFP against Notre Dame. Then it still persisted into the national title game against Alabama. Not once did Trevor have the so called "freshman moment". Though Tua had more than enough of those moments for Tua and Trevor both in that game.

Funny thing is, I haven't heard anything in regards to Feilds having a "freshman moment" or the "rookie rattles". True is the fact that Feilds isn't a freshman, but he is still in his debute season as a full-time starter. Have I just missed all of the media and their questions about Feilds being up to task and being able to avoid the "rookie rattles" that he hasnt had yet this season?

Will Venables be the one to pull the rug from beneath Feilds feet and expose the blueprint to shake, rattle and control Buckeye's star QB who has 40 TD'a to just one INT? If Feilds makes a mistake, will he be able to adjust and keep his composure against the Clemson defense and the Mastermind of Venables?

Clemson has been notorious for getting off to slow, sluggish starts. They always seem to open with a stalled opening drive. Then they are able to sustain a drive long enough to get a FG on the board. Then they settle in and begin to punish the opposing defense.

It will be interesting to see if the Clemson offense can open the game with a faster pace. If the Tigers can put up a couple of touchdowns and hold the Buckeye's in check while confusing Feilds, then the game could get out of hand rather quickly.

1. Fields plays for THE Ohio State University, so NO - no one is talking about him having a rookie moment. This despite the fact that he is going up against the mad scientist with three weeks to prepare.

@. I have been saying all week, that if we get on top of them early, they will have to move away from the run game. This takes away a number of their so=called advantages and puts increasing pressure on young Mr. Fields to win the game with his arm and his head. Once they become one dimensional (in their weaker dimension), BV and the boys will begin to feast.

That slow start is gonna be a problem. Sometimes we start slow to test the water, but more often it's just not settled in. Trevor had his freshman moment against Bama in the first drive, but AJ's pick six helped tremendously to turn the tide. Had that game started with Tua's long TD or our generational D-line NOT playing their heart out, it could have been a different game.

I certainly underestimated Fields and Day's ability to

Dec 27, 2019, 4:36 PM [ in reply to Re: Will Brent Venables make Justin Fields ]

handle adversity coming into this season, though it wasn't until Game 13 for each where they were truly in that spot, so lots of time to grow into the role. I didn't think the B1G overall had a CFP worthy team heading into the season, and that's pretty much how the league looked for the most part outside of O310. That makes them tricky to gauge just like us. Safe to say we will each face our toughest test of the season tomorrow night.

O310 State will score their points Saturday, they absolutely have the personnel to do so, though like every team we've played in the past five years running, they will have to earn every yard and conversion along the way.

With the depth and experience BV has at his fingertips, and the discipline in the ranks that simply keeps accumulating over the years in the depth chart, as long as O310 is trying to make a game of it the Tiger D will be bringing as difficult a challenge to every play as there is. With the higher level risk / reward backup that our Offense offers the D, that opens up a whole new level for BV to tinker with.

Looking forward to a great game and hard earned Tiger W.

Go Tigers!
