We could get back to being really good but not CWS champs great. I like Jack but believe he took Clemson about as far as he could, which was as far as you can go without winning it all. Just rather see someone else get a shot. I was really pulling for ML to do well.

Jack's last couple of teams seemed to play "uptight and

scared" due to how intense he had become. I don't think it would be any different now, except worse with all the added baggage from us firing him. It would be a HUGE mistake to rehire him, which I sincerely hope we have enough sense not to make.

Why go back, wasn’t he asked to leave? Move on move forward to hopefully better days ahead with someone new.

BINGO. Jack did well over the years. But his tme played out, no reason to go back. That just doesn't make sense to me.

My bad. Firing Jack worked out really well for the Clemson baseball program. I forgot about that

as Monte did over his first 5 years, for one. We'd literally be going backwards. Jack is a cool dude, but his style no longer works with the players of today.
Not happening sir. Move on and let's do better.

Cobbox, on this rare occasion, I have to disagree with you. When he basically told his bosses eff you and refused to fire Pepicelli it was all over for him. By the way, Pep was the worst pitching coach I have ever seen. I suffered through all those games at DKS. That approach did not work out well for Danny either.

The main reasons as I see them are:
Jun 4, 2022, 3:28 PM
|
|
1. He was fired for not achieving what Radakovich (and now Neff) want Clemson baseball to achieve. 2. There are surely some wounds/bad tastes in mouths on both sides that could prove problematic. 3. He is 68 years old, so likely wouldn’t be coaching very long.
I think Jack is a good coach, but he was our coach for a long time. He had his opportunity here. While I think we could certainly do a lot worse than Jack, I also believe that we can do better.

It's a shame they don't want Basketball to achieve at teh same level. Then we would have something. And don't forget, I coached this sport.

Hindsight is 20-20, so maybe we would have been just as well

off to have kept Leggett seven years ago. However, now we want to do much better than what Leggett did in his last five years, or what Monte was able to achieve. And if we can get someone like Jarrett or Lecroy, I think we will do better.
O'Sullivan could probably do well also, but it would probably take 2 million per year to get him, and I'm not sure it make sense to spend that much on a baseball coach. That would almost guarantee the baseball program losing money!

Hindsight is 20-20 I guess. But some of us knew we would have been better off keeping Leggett 7 years ago. We posted on here and got called coots relentlessly.

He was let go for a reason. D Rad tried to improve the program and he made a bad hire. It is the risk you take. Sometimes it doesn't work out. Just hope the right hire is made this time.

As far as DRad trying to improve the program, maybe. But i don't think you improve a program by firing one of the most successful coaches in college baseball history. More than likely it was just an ego firing. Both Jack and DRad have an ego and apparently Clemson was just not big enough for the both of them. Jack was a highly successful coach, what has DRad ever really accomplished? As for me I'd take Jack over DRad anyday, both now and would have in 2015. Good Drad has gone off to break things at Miami. But to suggest that Drad was just trying to improve the program, nah. That is not what the firing of Jack was all about.

If you take milk out of the fridge and it’s spoiled, do you put it back in for 7 years and expect it to be better when you try again? Jack is a legend and should be recognized as such by Clemson baseball but his time is passed. The last several years of his tenure were painful to watch. At least Montes teams played hard to the very end.

I mean I guess if we are comparing Jack's teams to Monte's teams now which seems strange. But maybe Monte's teams played hard to the very end and Jack's didn't I don't know. Opinions may differ on that. Facts though are that Jack's teams never had a losing record and never missed the tournament 2 years in a row, made several super regionals and Omaha multiple times. Those are just the easy ones. Weird comparison though.
