If he publically berated a player as suggested, he probably should get reprimanded or even fired but people were saying last night this is fabricated. Need to wait, a la DW4 for all the facts.

He called a walk on a lazy ####### in practice apparently. And then his dad made it public.
Wow a giant nothing burger. At least it puts to rest the conspiracy theory that brownell has no fire and doesn’t care.
While we are at it, let’s fire venables too! I’ve heard him say much worse.
We have a bunch of snowflakes on this board.

If this happened in practice, that is hardly public. Yet Daddy is going to take to social media with an incomplete and one sided statement. Maybe, just maybe, there was a reason for calling him a lazy whatever got blocked out.
Sad thing is that the young man probably is going to catch a lot more flack because of Daddy's Facebook post than anything Coach BB dished out.

Now that this kids dad has stepped all he has done is enabled his son. The next time somebody yells at him or criticizes his effort is he going to call his daddy again. This is the problem with many adults and a lot of HS and College kids. When times get tuff they call mom or dad to help them out.
I am grateful that my grandparents and my parents forced me to grow up and handle most of my own problems. Coaches would yell at me at practice but I never told my parents about it. It made me work harder so I could prove the Coach wrong.
Many parents baby their teenagers to much. They need to explain to them life is not always fair. Our country is becoming soft. It concerns me if the United States could pull together if China or Russia forces our country into to a war!! It’s scary because we have so many groups that are dividing the races in this country.
And it starts with a little incident like the kid being called a Lazy xxxx by a coach. The dad takes to the social media expecting apologies because his whiny son got his feelings hurt!

Seems like an overreaction from protective Daddy.
The only thing that really raised my eyebrows was the comment that if they try to get jobs and list coaches as references he would tell anyone they are lazy and incompetent. Thats going to far.

If all of this about BB is true we may now know why players leave the program early, transfer out, don’t reach their potential, or decommit from Clemson. Why can’t Brad recruit? Maybe now we know why. I don’t agree with insulting or cussing at players ever but I can guarantee you that most players take it pretty good if they know that Coach loves them and supports them and encourages them. The truth is that recruiting is not good and we have lost too many players recently and that can not be denied. Let’s just blame the players or players parents instead of blaming the people in charge. I will be the first to apologize or back track if the facts come out and things are vastly different than what they appear.

How do you think Frank Howard talked to players. Nobody was saying that he should be fired. Kid these days has no sense of authority, and that's why they are taking weapons to school to threaten or harm other kids in school. Our society has grown so soft since I was coming up, but I couldn't have been paid to bring a weapon to school, or talk back to teachers or coaches, and especially my parents the way kids now days do, and it's allowed by the parents, and IMO, that does more harm to the kids than spanking their butts bc they are being taught about respect, and authority that is no longer a must with raising kids these days!!!!

And in typical modern day internet fashion we have people jumping to conclusions without all the facts. Did this even happen? Were there witnesses? If it did happen what led up to it? Instead of getting all the facts let’s just run with a tweet while jumping to conclusions because we still act like a bunch of adolescents and our feelings matter more than the facts. SMH

By your back in the day logic the coaches would still be throwing n-bombs at players and could work em out without water until they passed out or died. Such a shame we moved on from those good ole days.

There are limits. I generally support Brownell (although the ending was pretty frustrating this season). But a few things need to be acknowledged:
- Need to get other side of the story, someone besides one player parent. - No...not every coach talks like that even though your little league coach did back in ‘87 or whatever. - If true...there’s no ‘spinning’ it into something good or saying ‘well, Bobby Knight won’ - If true...it doesn’t mean a coach has more ‘fire’. ‘Fire’ shows up in hard work...not drama. - If true....then it may be indicative of an underlying problem for a team that couldn’t quite put it all together. - If this was indeed at the ACC tourney...and that’s his mentality...it’s no wonder we lost.

What the #### is the matter with you people? Bear Bryant, Frank Howard, and Dean Smith are rolling over in their graves. Danny Ford and Mike Kryzwsxznvcxski are doubled over with laughter. College coach explodes in anger and frustration and calls a player a few really bad names?
OH MY GOD! OH NO! WHAT ON EARTH WILL WE DO?

I don’t care about the language or the yelling but threatening the kid’s future is another matter. Coaches are supposed to still be educators and when a kid doesn’t meet expectations that is as much on the coach as on the kid. Before you mock that concept - Dabo preaches it all the time and on the occasion when a player like Kendrick has to move on he always acknowledges his part in it and his regret. Going nuclear about making sure the kid will never get a job is prima donna bullsh*t.

As a matter of fact, from everything I’ve been told he has no problem with it on the field...I’ve talked to players that have been on the receiving end from certain assistants. And talked to a players dad who said the same.
Of course I haven’t witnessed anything myself.

There are several problems if this is true.
1. If you are making an argument of giving tough love in practices, that can be fine...but you can’t be also shifting blame to players publicly. Many examples have been given of some coaches that had a similar style, but if someone from the outside came at one of those players, they could expect a similar level of fire and brimstone in defense of said player.
2. Some of the alleged actions seem to show a disregard for the person, not a player’s actions. The attitude of “If you can’t do something for me right now, I don’t care about you”

He hasn't been fired bc his boss is a professional, and he ain't firing a coach just bc a 17-18 year old kid is accusing Brownell of wrong doings. He will need more than his best friend to back up his allegations!!!
I think that it's time to give another HC a shot at our BB program, but I would hate to know that he was fired bc a soft/spoiled kid couldn't deal with being coached. Especially if the Kid didn't have any credible witnesses to back up his story of abusive name calling, and his dad slandering Brownell surely isn't credible!!!

He posted a follow up tweet says he isn’t taking sides but likes the quote. So appears to be what he was referring too and if he likes the quote hard to imagine he think the story is completely fabricated.

Every player can take being yelled at, made to work hard in practice, take discipline, called names during the heat of practice or a game, and other forms of coercion to perform better. That though, is different than berating a player and threatening their future. I have never heard BB, one single time, say anything about the walk-ons and how they contribute to the program or publicly thank them for their hard work. I am beginning to think that players leaving the team is much more than lack of playing time.
I have always defended BB as a coach, but must admit I am much more disappointed in him as the leader of young men than in the W-L's on his resume. I think it would go a long way, IF ALL OF THIS IS TRUE, for him to come out an apologize and admit that he also has some things to learn.
