scheduled to play this year (different divisions), but scheduled it as a non-con as they are big rivals.

Makes no sense whatsoever. If you play teams in the conference, it's a conference game. Regardless!

It would be their 9th Conference game. They only count 8. UNC is an extra gane.

This is true in every conference. Conference sets a conference schedule for each team and teams are free to schedule the rest of their games outside that schedule: OOC. It’s ok for those to be against other conference teams, but you do not get to pad your conference record by scheduling extra games vs conference teams.
