Because it's not. It's an OOC game between two ACC teams. It does not count in the conference standings.

Because it’s not.

NC State has a non-conference game because the league's scheduling format, the number of teams in the conference, and the addition of new schools to the ACC have created a need for non-conference games even between member institutions to meet contractual obligations or allow for a balanced schedule. Specifically, the 2025 Virginia-NC State game is a non-conference game outside the ACC's standard scheduling rotation

Maybe they scheduled it as one of their out of conference games? So it doesn’t count as their conference games because it’s an extra. Usually happens when one of their out of conference games fall through

It was not scheduled as a conference game, and so, despite them being in the same conference, it does not qualify as a conference game for the standings.

Because it wasn't. Someone else explained how they didn't want to play any lower tier teams so they were allowed to play each other as a non conference game. I'm sure someone can explain this better than me
