Hindsight being 20/20 and all, but based on everything I’ve seen this year I’m going to guess it’s because we are a poorly coached team.

I was yelling at the screen at the end, as I was thinking about it when the announcers mentioned the “fire drill” field goal team.

It is my understanding that none of our coaches are poor. And it seems most are grossly overpaid.

I said the same thing...GT 4th down, clock running, FG team running on to field, clock still ticking and we run defensive players on like our hair is on fire...why were we in such a hurry???...should have strolled to use as much time as possible and go to OT.

We would have probably lost in OT anyway.

I don’t disagree that we likely would’ve lost in OT. Our coaching staff still should’ve done everything they could to disrupt that final kick.

I can’t remember when but I swear I have seen a team get a delay of game pentaly for taking too long to get in position. AI says that after the last offensive olayer exits the field the defense only has three seconds to get their players in position.

I believe that it's around 3-4 seconds to make the move to enter the field of play. The player still is allowed time to set up on defense.

3-5-2-VII:
Late in the first half Team A is out of timeouts. A pass play on third down ends inbounds at the B-25 short of the line to gain with the game clock showing 0:10. Facing fourth down and three, Team A immediately hurries its field goal team onto the field. RULING: Team B should reasonably expect that Team A will attempt a field goal in this situation and should have its field-goal defense unit ready. The umpire will not stand over the ball, as there should be no issue of the defense being uncertain about the next play.

Why would this not apply?
VIII. Late in the first half Team A is out of timeouts. A pass play on third down ends inbounds at the B-25 short of the line to gain with the game clock showing 0:30. Facing fourth down and three, Team A gives no indication as to its next play until the game clock reads 0:10. They then rush their field goal unit onto the field, and Team B then hurries to respond. RULING: The Referee starts the substitution mechanics process and the umpire moves to the ball to prevent the snap. The umpire will step away when the Referee determines that the defense has had adquate time to complete its substitution. If the game clock reads 0:00 before the ball is snapped after the umpire steps away, the half has ended.

The real question is why is GT driving down the field to kick a game winning field goal against the Clemson tigers?

Exactly, this isn’t Ohio State, this is an unranked Georgia Tech team than Clemson has beat every year for nearly a decade. Our run is officially over.
