Why did Justyn Ross drop 91 places on 247Sports?

Just saw he dropped 91 places to #138. What happened? Did he break a leg?

I wouldn't put too much stock into it as of now. I mean these are 2018 'croots before their senior season started. I think a lot of the jumps deal with the glitz and the glamour of The Opening. But hey, Ross is still top 300 'croot FWIW. Ain't too shabby!

Same thing with TL dropping, who knows with these people and how they eval someone. As long as he comes to Clemson, he can be ranked whatever they choose...

Yea they moved justin fields as #1 in 247 as well but like ross they put a lot into opening more than they should and TL suffered from his WR dropping good passes and lots of writers said they thought it was bc the WRs weren't used to that much zip on longer passes. If TL was a bama commit they would be talking about him more and he would never lose #1 spot but atleast rivals and scouts have him 1 and lowest is 3 in espn

The fact is that some scouts just like DT-QB's more then PP-QB's. They put ALOT of value into the QB if he has legs. Justin Fields is a great player but ill still take TL all day the guy is just a great thrower of the football. A whole different level then JF.

but you can at least confirm or deny that the drop might be indicative of the staff's change in interest or not... i mean, you could hint if it's red flag related or not... i'm just saying...

He's a 5-star talent all the way. He just doesn't have super polished technique and route running at this point- similar to Derion Kendrick- which can be easily coached up at the next level.
Barton Simmons over at 247 stated that their ranking evaluators don't put as much stock into actual game film because the level of competition, supporting cast, etc can very so wildly in high school. Therefore, I believe a lot of the changes going on in the rankings are reactionary from the way these guys are performing in shorts during the camp circuits- events that polished route runners typically excel at. It's just not the forte of a guy like Ross right now.
Once the pads come back on and J Ross takes the field this season, he'll remind everyone exactly where he belongs in the 'rankings'. All just my opinion.

He missed 1 7v7 due to injury and was inconsistent during the week

He's still one of the WRs with the highest upside due to his physical traits. But he is pretty raw at this point and needs to improve his route running and focus on securing the ball. All of which we excel at teaching. He's definitely a 5* WR physically. And he's still listed a 5* by the sites that aren't so knee jerk.

We all know what ross can do 247 makes major moves after the opening that put too much stock in that event. I saw one guy jump from 620 to 190 in the new 247 rankings. I don't pay too much attention I look at 247 composite more bc it takes all services into account. He is still ranked high in espn and the others so oh well want him the same haha.

He has all the measurables that anyone would want, however he hasn't backed it up on the field due to injury. In 8 games his sophomore year, he had 23 catches for 494 yards and 4 TDs. His junior season was even more limited with 3 games played where he had 9 catches for 209 yards.
A lot of his hype comes from the 6'4" height and the fact that the two big in-state schools are pushing hard for him. I'm not knocking Justyn Ross at all, he just needs to do more on Friday nights if he wants a top 100 rank. Why was he ranked so highly prior? If I had to guess, it was the strong sophomore season that shot him up the rankings. Now the players with strong junior seasons and camp circuits are starting to pass him. He'll have the chance to get back up there this fall.
