Why did Jake H. Play so much instead of D Jones?

I get getting Jake H. in on some offensive plays for potential three-point shooting, but they left him in on defense so much and he was trying to drive the lane, neither thing he he’s very good at.
Seemed like jake got way more minutes than either Wiggins or Jones and I simply didn’t really understand it based on what SMU was doing with him on the court. I’m sure Brown Hill had his reasons, I’d be curious to know if anyone has a hypothesis.

Because he shoots 41% from three. Jones made some bad shots last night. Don’t get me wrong, I love Jones. But Heidbreeder is an assassin.

Agreed, Jones took two ridiculous shots in a short span during the time SMU had the lead in the 2nd half. He looked like he was playing in a rec league attempting those shots.

Jake had a couple and shots/plays in the paint too. And got beat on cuts to the basket a couple of times.

I get that but he would not pull the trigger on some open looks. That is why he is in the game, if you are open, take the shot.

He drove and had a nice assist to Viktor but his defense is underrated. I thought he did OK defensively

That was one, but he's generally not good at driving.
He also turned it over a couple of times when he drove and looked to pass but there was no one to get a pass.

I am glad he was out there a lot though. We need a dude hitting 3's in the Big Dance if we want to get anywhere deep. Either way, they will both get plenty of PT now with Dillon out.

Statistically, on the year, Heidbreder's presence on the court provides a greater boost for the team relative to Del Jones. While Jones is the better defender, Heidbreder brings more offensively to the court to more than offset his decreased defensive efficiency relative to his Jones. It's also worth noting that even though Heidbreder is not the better defender, he has shown to be a plus defender relative to an average player. Additionally, given that we were using Zachary to shadow Boopie for the majority of the game, it makes sense to save Jones as a reserve to spell Zachary. If you play both Zachary and Jones at the same time, who guards Boopie when both players need a rest or get into foul trouble?
Lastly, SMU's center Yigitoglu was a frustrating presence all game particularly when we would attempt to drive to the basket. Heidbreder being able to space the floor allowed for more room in the midrange for Chase to work when spacing the floor, particularly towards the end of the game.

I don't agree with the common perception that Jake is a liability defensively. He's held his own on several occasions and has quick hands.

He's pretty dangerous in the open court and when he can get into the lane, but that's not how the game was shaping up last night.

Close game also dictated more ball control & I think JH is a bit smoother/calmer under pressure.

Hunter was. It’s going to take some luck with BB pushing the buttons at the right times and guys stepping up to get the job done. The bigs can’t compound the issue by getting in foul trouble.

really test us as Hunter will be missed tremendously on D against that lineup. To me, they should be the favorite af this point - not sure if the line has shifted in their direction.

because we cant hit the broad side of a barn for 3 straight games now, he has to do something to get some outside shooting. 19% from 3 wont win many games especially this time of year.
