Why are we subsidizing

fossil fuels?

Hey Trumpers, please let us know why we are still subsidizing oil and coal, which were new industries about 150 years ago.

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2025/sep/09/fossil-fuels-subisidies-study

Coal is one of the most expensive forms of power generation for the grid. Substantially more expensive than renewables.

Don’t tell me we need it to power the grid. That is not true. We have cheaper cleaner forms of generation as replacement. What we need are politicians that have the huevos to say NO to the oil and gas industry.

Coal is filthy dirty and has significant Detrimental, health impacts, like death, for American citizens. The only reason the industry gets away with this is we can’t see it, i.e. we can’t see the pollution.

Pop up to West Virginia sometime and talk to some miners about black lung disease.

We’re talking about death and disability at a young age.

In the US government continues to provide tens of billions of subsidies.

Ex ante crime prevention. I don't give a sheet about your made up Covid complaints but subsidizing poorer Americans is just common sense. Crime is often committed by desperate people; helping those people helps everyone.

But you don't really care for a real answer you're just a troll

I have.

Go buy YOURSELF some solar panels and a heat pump so YOU can quit using OUR tax dollars to destroy OUR planet.

Your plan is right on target. If oil companies and utility companies would support distributed energy generation, ie solar panels, geothermal, etc., then yes, they will eventually leave us alone and quit phukin up our planet.

Leave the rest of us alone.

God knows why the average American would support subsidies for oil and gas companies. If you want to be left alone, tell the oil companies they can’t have any anymore of your subsidy money.

Or, it might be easier to stay in your bunker. Stock up on food. Buy more guns and ammo turn on Fox News, lock the doors, they are coming to take your truck.

people say he just wants to protect tax credits and subsidies for his electric cars. He consistently says he’s happy to do away with them but let’s make it fair. Don’t subsidize fossil fuels and then talk about how much cheaper they are.

Even w subsidies fossil fuels are more expensive when ya talk about powering the grid.

Take away oil subsidies and build the equivalent EV charging structure and fossil fuels are way more expensive than electricity.

It is simple, first for national defense. Second in 2022 they got $32b in subsidies but were returned $74B in royalties. It is one of the few handouts that generates a ROI.

You really believe we need the quantity of fossil fuels we subsidize for national defense?

Your subsidized tank of gas at the pump is for national defense?

You really have no clue what happens around you.

Just vote for Americans next time around not an a fat orange un-American dirtbag that is swindling the American economy and American taxpayers.

Yes and the reason why is all those planes, helicopters , Bradley’s, tanks , etc run on fossil fuels. They get really low mpg to boot. The strategic petroleum reserve was not established to let some fool lower gas prices like old Biden attempted.

Now if you stopped and educated yourself the 2nd reason I said is also true. The Federal government gets back more in royalties a year than what is handed out in subsidies each year.

OK, let’s say we get more royalties and subsidies, why are we providing subsidies to oil and gas?

100 years ago when most oil n gas subsidies were put in place, it made a lot of sense to subsidize oil and gas. Now it does not.

Coal is the most absurd fuel to support and subsidize

Oct 29, 2025, 12:39 PM

From both an environment and human health standpoint. Any proponents of coal are either personally profiting or technically uninformed.

Oil and gas economics are based on a global market and supply chain where margins control sources.

There is little downside to nuclear and renewables. Both should be embraced from both long term environmental and economic perspectives.
