Why not put our 250 Lb QB under center in End Zone

Yes, I heard Dabo answer this exact question but anyone watching this game at that critically important point in the game has to be scratching their head and sorry, but the answer did not satisfy: "that's not who we are". I think that you have to use all the tools and plays you have available to win the game ... just like a hammer is not the only tool you use to make a plumbing repair.

We are a shotgun (and sometimes pistol) only offense. Just how it is.

You have a guard that moved to center in fall camp and was named the starter Week 1 snapping to Soph QB that came from a shotgun system and playing in a shotgun system not practicing for an under center snap at the 1 yd line with an 8 pt lead.
Should we have practiced snaps for that occasion? Yes, we do need to work on it. But remember we had the same situation with Deshaun not having practiced under center when we got to the goal line.

I remember when that actually cost us (among other mistakes too I guess) the FSU game in 2014.

when a guy cant take a snap under center....'what are we even doing'? That whole scenario is just so pathetic and it takes away the the most basic thing about a QB in football. It rocket science.

Yes it is very difficult to move a football between your legs to a man standing directly behind you. Requires months of extensive practice to do this motion. SMH I mean we could do this in elementary school
Why is it so hard for fans and coaches just to say you know we totally screwed that up

Listen, I don’t actually have a problem with the shotgun formation in that scenario but I have to admit that your explanation is funny as ####. lol.
That was pretty good. It does seem that simple though. lol.

Did anyone mention if it would have been legal for DJ to roll outside the tackles and then pass the ball as far downfield as he could. Could he do it twice to run out the clock? If it's illegal what would the penalty be?

It's a felony. I think the penalty is something like 10 years of attending games at Williams Brice. Yes, I know that is cruel and unusual punishment. But, it is what it is.

Ask Dabo after D.J. gets pinned for a safety, then the opposing team goes drives and scores to win the game. Bet this time his answer won't be: "That's not who we are"?

I don't know. There's been so much of a spotlight on the subject, that would be a nervous snap to DJ under center in the end zone.

No, you listened to the announcers who knew very little about Clemson football instead of our coach who has won 2 National Championships in the last 5 years. A Tiger does not change his stripes without a bunch of work and you just can't put a QB under center if it is not part of the offense. Maybe it will be but the truth is, if Shipley did a better job of protecting the ball all these posts would have never happened.

And what if DJ can’t catch the snap (like has happened in every game)?

NFL QBs take snaps from behind center all the time. It would make sense that we would practice that skill based on the fact these guys will need to do that in the NFL. Call me crazy. It’s pure stubbornness and foolishness that we don’t practice it and prepare for it. The QB sneak is a critical play in short yardage situations.

I don't care if we have 2 walk-ons that are our designated under center kneel down team. We don't even need to take practice time away from DJ. Have Linthicum and Helms do it. There are just times that being under center is more effective, so if "Who we are," is a shotgun team in those situations then we are selling ourselves short.

Reply to Valley Boy.... I was in the stadium in my usual seat and started yelling "what the hell are we doing" when we tried and failed to draw GT offsides and continued yelling when we went into the shotgun 6 yds deep in the endzone. I am still wondering why! Bad, bad things happen in this scenario 1) QB can't handle the snap, 2)QB slips down, 3)RB slips down, 4)Bad exchange, 5)RB fumbles and the list goes on and on. Sorry, No announcers needed.

going underneath our 250lb QB and taking a snap than going shotgun in that situation

Only shotgun.
Apparently there isn't any room to reconsider this in the future.

Because apparently the hardest thing in the world to do for a Center and QB these days is take a snap under center, even tho they've probably done it a million times as a kid and going through school. Crazy how they make something that the avg fan could probably go out there and do seem so difficult.

If #88 would have gotten lower and blocked on that play

we would have gotten out of the endzone. But he was lazy and was stood straight up and was pushed back.
