Whos buying the hype, and whos not?

The hype for the Tigers is on high right now. I think this team has a chance to be really good. I think the Offense could be off the charts if Klubnik plays to expectations, however I have some concerns about the D. The Defense was not good last year…certainly not what we all expect from a Clemson D.
Total D - 69
Pass D - 54
Rush D - 85
Sacks - 37
Tackles for loss - 24

If the new DC can clean up the D, we should be in good shape, but I need to see it

Before anyone calls me a coot, I a certainly NOT, I grew up my in Central, Graduated D. W. Daniel High, and 2 Degrees from Clemson. I’d attach baby pics if I could find then wrapped in Tiger Paw blankets at Anderson Memorial, lol

Last second win against SMU that was destroyed by Penn State. Got ran over by Louisville. Got ran over by citadel running backs. Have to rely on DLs to FG block. Got receivers at RB.

I hope we win it all, but jfc at the hype.

Very fair question and I wish a lot of tnetters would respond, but I am sure everyone is afraid to give a thought for fear of future retribution. I will say I want to believe the hype but simply can’t until I see the product, and this year we don’t have to wait long since LSU is coming to town.I believe we should play in the ACC championship but that’s about it. If we win the ACC we go to the playoffs but probably a one and done. I hope I am wrong and we win it all this year. Go Tigers.

Cade is not the key on offense, the O line is. A running back and a QB are only as good as the holes the line opens and the time the line gives for the throws.

As far as the defense, our players this year are much, much better and Coach Allen will get credit that needs a few years to be validated. Yes, the players are largely the same as last year but another year of experience will make all the difference from last season.

I get first game jitters, but that should be gone by the second drive.

Times we come out really hot in games over the last few years is tempered by inconsistent play for the whole game.

Here's to coming out steady and consistent.

Cautiously optimistic, and growing in confidence.

I ran into a Texas fan on an LSU board breaking down our game against them. His opinion was no one came close to doing to their secondary what Cade and the WRs did, not even Ohio State.

I think Riley and Cade still have some head scratcher games, but there coming fewer and further between. Mafah getting hurt kind of derailed the train on offense and it took a while for us to adjust, but I think we did by the SMU game.

OL should be the best we’ve had years. Experienced vets, talented young guys. Best coach in the business. Expecting them to take the biggest jump of any group on the field. Cade and these WRs with great line play? We can compete with anyone.

Defense I’m not as sure about, but there’s first round talent at every level. There was too much talent to be as bad as they were. You can’t help but blame coaching and I think we solved that problem. Penn state had a loaded D and they weren’t terribly torn up to lose him, but the common thread I saw was that Allen might be the best second half coordinator in the country. Wes couldn't make adjustments to save his life.

I’m amazed at the current level of hype, I feel like a lot is being made out of the second half of the Texas game. That being said the potential is there to compete this season for a natty. I fully believe in the hype. This defense is talented and finally has a coach that will push them. We had a soft defensive coach so our D was soft. That isn't the case now. We will be attacking on defense. The O should be good. I do worry a little about running the ball but I fully expect our D to be top 10 in most categories.

Gave up buying the hype after the Alabama opener in 2008. Got all hyped up to witness a game that was over after our first offensive play. Those who got hyped up before the opener against Duke didn't know we bought everything on their gift registry at Dillard's. The 2013 FSU beatdown at home when we were #3 was a definite hype buster. IMO the opener against UGA in Charlotte hurt the program tremendously and ruined DJU. The LSU game this year is extremely important. All the hype, recruiting momentum, and excitement will disappear if Clemson lays an egg. I'm optimistic about the game and believe we will win but Clemson's record in big games the last several seasons is not good.

I'd love to see us run the table and have a season for the ages but the reality is that we were a top 15-20 type team last season and this season is gonna be almost the exact same team. Is that returning talent in and of itself gonna propel us to a championship? Its far from a sure thing.

Clemson had Louisville-like games even in the national championship seasons. They just had enough talent and coaching to pull out a win. Remember in 2016 they were a field goal away from losing to NC State at home. In 2018 they gave up 35 points and 600 yards to South Carolina at home.

I’m optimistic but hope the hype isn’t a distraction. I think we will certainly be better. Two questions for me are: 1. How much can Tom Allen impact in year 1, and 2. Is offense balanced and does Cade take next step.

I agree with some points made earlier that wrong guys were in key games. Wesco vs ga and limited Sammy B in 4th quarter vs #####. Despite RB by committee, I think we are better there bc an injured Mafah in 2nd half was a liability.

I also think we’ll make big plays on D, but can we have consistent gap control and set edge?

Must win this first game! Otherwise we will be tightrope walking mediocrity to the pundits
Or something

One game at a time...I believe in Clemson, but they have to prove the hype one game at a time. Our fellow fans that have bought into the hype are the people obessing about prognosticating about the Gamecocks, the ACC title, and playoff's. The Coots obession is always around because..well it's the Coots, but combined with the other two it's hype buy-in IMO. I don't see many of those, just fans that have high hopes for us to do well which is normal and upbeat fandom.

We had an analyst coaching our D ever since BV left for Oklahoma. Now that we have a hard nosed D coordinator, I feel things will be different. Our secondary may get burned a time or two each game but out line should be really good.

I also think the D will be improved, how much I’m not sure yet.
